Neither is my favourite band, but KC just edges it in terms of overall muscianship - Pink Floyd are quite good musicians who have made some quite good records consistently. King Crimson are MUCH less consistent - and produce an awful lot of sh*te - but at their best are wonderful.

Blimey - I must have had too much to drinkl There was me thinking that Floyd were exceptional musicians who produced some of the most influential music of all time and who will be remembered long after all of us are playing our harps in the clouds. I love KC, but, yes, they did produce some sh*te, and I am afraid that they were nowhere near as consistently good as PF IMO. Neither, sadly, will radio be playing Larks Tongues in Aspic parts one to (whatever it's up to now) in 200 years time, as I suspect they will with DSOM and WYWH.

What fresh hell is this poll? Making us choose? Some vile beast must have put you up to it.
Well... I enjoy Pink Floyd more, but King Crimson are more technically proficient and progressive, in that sense.
Lyrically, I'd say Pink Floyd is a bit more direct in the delivery, but perhaps not as vivid. One is jazzier and one is bluesier. (in a general sense, not in direct sound, but in spirit) I hate comparing, because I love both so much. I like Pink Floyd more, over all, but I enjoy Red more than any Pink Floyd album... I am only voting Pink Floyd to attempt to tie it up.

No vote from me -- I'd pick either, both, or neither, depending on my mood at any given time. My moods vary. My tastes in music range far. I don't view my music collection as some sort of sonic "war zone."
Sorry, but I'll say it again: many pollsters here must be record company execs with limited budgets (and even more limited vision), accountant-types, or just plain lacking in original topics for polls and threads. | I could not agree more with you, but this is cyber space and it's not really about the music as it is a place for all us curious souls to come and meet. I see it as a kind of place where we can throw a few ideas around and even venture off into the absurd, but it's fun man. hey, why not. I have ventured a bit further into progressive music because of this web site. We are all a bit unique in our own crazy progressive ways........ You know, 'my dad can beat your dad up'...............hmmmmm, I often wondered what the outcome would have been given the opertunity to wintness such an event. It never happened though.................

You're right Sacred 22 , it's not easy to choose in these Polls between Giants that we all agree about their greatness , But i believe that the balance is not Equal at all times . Both bands , Pink Floyd & King Crimson are maybe the best two Giants in the world of Progressive Rock music , but for many reasons , you surely have favourite between both , so , why not to cast yur vote the way you feel it's right . From my point of view , I've been following both since 1969 , it was like only yesterday when i discovered In the Court and Meddle , Ummagumma and Lizard , 40 years of the best progressive music from both , the Crimsons and the Floyds , and it was always a matter of line - up . And in their case , Gilmour - Waters - Wright // against Fripp and so so so so many good musicians in 40 years , that's why I vote for Fripp , cause he stood Still all this period without looking back , he's a winner and one of the best musicians ever . ///// TracksToni //////////

I don't have as much trouble choosing as others seem to, I find myself listening to PF on a less and less regular basis. They're a good band, but for my tastes they don't quite...do it for me most of the time.

Definitely Pink Floyd. I only like King Crimson albums from In the court to the Crimson King to Red, and even in that period I don't think they were as consistent in quality as Floyd.

Love both (definitely not all their albums), but Crimso has the edge slightly.

Pink Floyd definately but King Crimson is awesome too
The reason for my choice is that Pink Floyd was one of my favorite bands even before I knew what Prog was, Wish You Were Here was the reason I even got interested in this genre

King Crimson, they have always done it for me, I think I actually like every one of their albums, they changed it up so much and still managed to make compelling music... it's hard to top them in my book.
Floyd has a great sound but aren't nearly as interesting... I can see how they appeal to a wider audience though... outside of PA, that is. :P

These bands are completely different...
The poll should be as follows :
either
pick your favorite out of these :
- King Crimson
- Anekdoten
- Léger de Main
- Van der Graaf Generator
or
pick your favorite out of these :
- Pink Floyd
- Allaen-era Gong
- Eloy
- ozric tentacles

Hearing Pink Floyd put me off listening to 60s-70s prog for a long time (They were the first band I really heard from that era), I find them so dull it actually makes me angry. KC however were/are brilliant, 70s stuff especially, but i think all their stuff's worth a listen

i like bouth bands, bouth are important to rock in different angels, bouth changed the face of rock, stage preformence, production, structure.
King Crimson scared the hell out off peapol, when they first playd schizoid man the first time (Bruford have told so), and inspired a bunc of bands to do the same
few have ventured in the area or level of scene/stage preformance in vicual form as Pink Floyd, light show, airplains, flying pigs and huge walls. some bands used theatrics and stuff from theater on stage (Alice Cooper, Roxy Music, Rush, Elton John and Genesis) but not ass expencive or massive as Floyd (have i heard thru documentaries on TV).
after watching the light show in P.U.L.S.E and the wall concer DVDs you get a bit spoild and evrything after that seems childish, funny ore silly.
i like bouth bands but i think the history of Pink Floyd is more inspiering and that 4-5 architect / art / ingeniour students went to concur the world and produce two 20 x platinum, one 7x platinum and two 4 x platium records.

back in the 1970s it would have been Pink Floyd, but King Crimson continued to make excellent music in the 80s, 90s and into the 3rd millennium, whereas Pink Floyd's output since the 70s has rarely been more than adequate. KC gets my vote.
