Confused

I wouldn't call Babooshka, Wuthering Heights, Hounds of Love, The Man with the Child in his Eyes and some of her others straight-up pop.  Yes they charted well and were popular in their day but I wouldn't call it straight-up pop.

Try other albums besides Hounds of Love, 'cause that is her most poppy release.

Evanescence got a number one in the UK and they're not straight-up pop. Wink

Well, on a completely non-n00b related front, I got my CD today.  I'll be checking it out tomorrow.  It's one of two things I bought with my GEMM winnings from last month.

Yes you do.

Liege and Lief. Wink

And read my review of itLOL! That's a great album, though I have to say I prefer Pentangle to both Fairport and Steeleye Span.

I was listening to a Pentangle compilation the other day and it was indeed excellent.

Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Danny Thompson and Jackie McShee are all excellent performers. Big smile

You should LOL

I should scrobble them as that on last.fm and see what happens. LOL

I accidently mis-scrobbled Rouge Ciel as Rogue Ciel once (only one track) but I deleted it when I realised. LOL

I'm not keen on them either.

I was just using an example of a non-typical pop band becoming popular that isn't that bad.

Ciao Raffa, wonderful to see you!

Alex....give Kate more than a glance, she's wonderful.  Try her first album for something intimate, try Never For Ever for something dreamy/fantasy like, or try The Dreaming for her most obtuse.  I think Aerial really sucks, but most of her fans adore it.
...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell"

I like Kate Bush as pop, but her "prog" is awful.

If you want to hear something more experimental by Kate Bush, try The Dreaming. It features my favourite song by her, "Pull Out the Pin" (read my review to see what I meanWink).

Changing the subject, earlier today I found out Opeth are playing in DC on May 27.. .I'd really like to catch them!

And remember it was Dave Gilmour that discovered her, I believe.

She also did that not-so-good single with Peter Gabriel. LOL

But even that was good compared to Phil Collins solo...

That described all hard rock, ever. Wink

Oh really? I am glad you agree.

Oh yes, those idiots who like hard rockUnhappy....

Ah, Raff, I am merely poking fun. I don't have a taste for hard rock, but I don't actually feel it is an inferior music.

Thanks, Raff and Jim! I'll give her another chance with a different album, I think.

So? I just got Close to the Edge like...nine years ago.

I bask in my fleeting youth, as well as in what great prog comes my way.  I take my time, and savor each album as it comes along.

You should definitely do that.

I saw them last year with David and they were pretty good. Only other band I've seen live though is Rush, so they're my least fav concert experience, but it was worth the money, I think.

I wish I could have seen them now though; I'm into them alot more than I was back then.

Pat, you're married with kids... I am sure I would be in the same situation as you are if I was a mother. Unfortunately, I am much older, and I was a spinster until four months agoWink. Micky was also in your shoes a few years ago, and in an unhappy marriage to boot. We are perhaps an unusual couple in that we both enjoy music, and the same kind of music as well.
