I just googled the Venga Boys and apparently James was trying to be funny. He should have put on Green Day or something.

I don't have a problem with rock music. Just banal rock with weakly distorted guitars, playing unoriginal solos without any real hook or knack for melody or bold experimentation, who are only competent in their skills, composition deficient, and lyrically never going past hot rods, hard drugs, heathen women, or the occasional Frank Zappa concert...

I am getting a favorable first impression from them. It appears that I will have to keep my eyes open for the Crane Wife too.

I don't recall this particular items existing within the bands that you previously mentioned, but as always when it comes to PA, what the hell do I know.

First Animal Collective, now The Decemberists? Is everyone just latching on to my favorite bands months after me saying how great they are?

It was supposed to be a vague, yet humorous quip that exaggerates somewhat against Deep Purple.

I got that out of the "occasional Frank Zappa concert", but the previous post of yours that I was referring to was regarding you listening to Styx and Queen and The Who.

If that is you in your avatar than you definitely do appear to enjoy flattering yourself.
Kate Bush's voice is too odd for my tastes; at least with what I have tried so far.

I might enjoy shameless self promotion, but calling myself one of the members of Monty Python is too blasphemous, even for me.

Oh, you were listening to Styx. :/ I retract my high five.
I think my favorite non-prog rock album is Now You Are One of Us by The Paper Chase, but I don't have many of them... |
Hey, I didn't enjoy it. I am just going through my hard rock collection to write reviews. So, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Styx, The Who, Queen (I'll be getting to that soon, and I dread it). Why can't they ever have decent lyrics? And why does it all bore me to death?
|
Never thought I'd see Styx in the same sentence as The Who...
The Who are not a hard rock band. Listen to Sell Out or By the Numbers...sure they can rock but after their debut its all art rock. And as for hating them...I don't think The Who ever cared if anybody liked them or not, considering they did whatever they wanted to do musically

I don't really understand this attitude towards any of these bands. Unfortunately, I see it more and more on these pages and it just makes this site that much less enjoyable to visit. It kind of makes me sad how much hatred that all of these young guys are carrying around with them.
