Then the third is a tie between Can, Caravan, Miles Davis, Soft Machine, and Samla Mammas Manna.

This is so difficult !!!
Atomic Crimson Rush - you work it out...
First bands that spring into the cranium must be the ones so we have:

1 Rush
2 Yes
3 King Crimson

or even Atomic Rooster, Dream Theater, VDGG, Hawkwind, Porcupine Tree - oh just look at my sig line - that's the bands I love most.

Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,

This is a good question! Tongue
Well, Pink Floyd has always been my favourite so:
- Pink Floyd
- Yes
- Genesis (Gabriel's era)

(the next one would be King Crimson or ELP)
Les mains, les pieds balancés
Sur tant de mers, tant de planchers,
Un marin mort,
Il dormira

- Paul Éluard

Haven't gotten to check them out yet other than what's on their page on here, I liked that though.

The Saga from Canada?   I didn't think that you liked them.  LOL

The first two doesn't change too much for me, and I am really not sure which prog band I like the third most.

1. Rush
2. Yes
3.  I'll go with The Flower Kings' nation, thus including Roine Stolt solo, Kaipa, Karamakanic, Transatlantic, Tomas Bodin solo, The Tangent, etc...
