It really depends what album you are talking about. Something really fine tuned FOR CD like Porcupine Tree? No. Anything made before 1990? YES!!! The quality difference in older albums is absolutely immense.
 
What about bands that are renowned for making excellent vinyl releases like Godspeed for example? I've always wanted to listen to F#A Infinity on vinyl.



GSY!BE is absolutely incredible on vinyl, I have their entire discography on wax.

Actually post-rock in general sounds really, really good on vinyl. It's essential for very organic genres like Black Metal though.

A Beautiful album;  Glass Museum is probably my single most fav. Tortoise composition.

Mono definitely took me a couple of years to fully appreciate, but yes You Are There is the definitive Mono album. It is absolutely stunning. However, I do find all of their other albums to be amazing too. I see what you're saying about the cliche/generic thing, but I think they manage to escape being cliche and generic with the way they compose and orchestrate their pieces. No one can match their intensity or envelop you the way they do.

go north ,and turn left Smile. just kidding .. Hymn To The Immortal Wind is great album, you can check Walking Cloud And Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered And The Sun Shined , another gem, in fact all their albums are superb, except Palmless Prayer Mass Murder Refrain, that album i don't like much, World's End Girlfriend has pretty messed up things in that album

Mono definitely took me a couple of years to fully appreciate, but yes You Are There is the definitive Mono album. It is absolutely stunning. However, I do find all of their other albums to be amazing too. No one can match their intensity or envelop you the way they do.


I haven't listened to the new album enough yet to really judge, but at the moment I just feel that for being so heavily augmented with the orchestra, it fails to really sound very dynamical or more epic than what say Explosions in the Sky can do with 4 members.

Yea, go to Hymn or Walking Cloud, then work your way back to their first album. All 5 albums are really great. However, I think the WEG split is pretty good, but it is very slow and very minimalist classical music. You have to be in the right mood for it.

I'm listening to You are there right now, and have decided on taking a legit stab at "getting" Mono's music. Seriously though, you'd think their hands would get tired of all the tremolo picking!
