Staying away from something because of a hype is just as silly as believing in hypes, imo.

It's not some "I don't want to listen to what everyone else is listening to" thing. When people go on and on about something I should hear or do I usually end up not hearing or doing that because all the nagging gets on my nerves. Also, in this particular case the music doesn't seem interesting to me, so I'd rather go discover something else that seems to be more in tune with my preferences.

Don't know anything about "hype" but I just got my hands on this album, and it's very good! CSN&Y in places, Arcade Fire in other... extremely enjoyable album...

If you like gorgeous vocal harmonies, you can't go wrong with this. It does get a bit samey, yes, but every song is so stunningly executed that I love it anyway.

I recently bought the album (because of a good review in Uncut).
I really like it -- there is substantial beauty, majesty and originality in their music. A great find for me! I enjoy where "folk" seems to be going these days.
Plus a wonderful Breughel painting for the cover art!  |

Listening now...very haunting. They remind me of another band I can't put my finger on. Neil Young had a song or two on his Harvest Moon CD that have a similar sound.

INCREDIBLE band, love all of their music. I could listen to both of their albums 24/7, 365. Starting to give Kayo Dot and Genesis competition for my favorite band of all-time...

^I know we generally don't share taste in music, but Fleet Foxes is your alltime fave based on one nice album and a EP?
I just think its great that quality mainstream bands like this pops up unce in a while, so I can put on music everyone can envjoy when my parents or old friends are visiting.

I have to agree also with these sentiments. Nothing spectacular, nothing offensive either. Good on them for reaching a wider audience though.

Why not? Does a band have to have a certain quantity of albums to be in the running? Hell no, not for me! This band has impacted my life, as much if not more than any other band I've heard so far. The difference with Fleet Foxes and several other bands is that I can listen to Fleet Foxes over and over and over and over again and none of the songs ever lose their effect. It's like eating pizza for every meal and never once getting sick of it or having to deal with it losing it's taste. It's so simple, yet profound at the same time. Warm, beautiful, accessible... this band taught me how to love again and I'm dead serious.

We (the Mrs and I) saw Fleet Foxes supporting Elbow last summer at the Royal Festival Hall. We had heard both the album and the Sun Giant E.P.
and being fans of both bands were blown away by both of the performances.
I totally agree with the comparison of Fleet Foxes with Midlake.
Tracks on Midlake's 'Trials...' album called 'Young Bride' and 'It Covers the Hillsides' do sound a bit like templates for Fleet Foxes catalogue.

I don't get the Midlake comparisons at all...
If ANYTHING, Fleet Foxes sounds like My Morning Jacket.

I agree with this. CSNY have always bored me; fleet foxes LP I've listened to about 10 times since I've gotten it two weeks ago or so.

I have the same feelings as most about the CS&N comparisons. Reasonable but not very accurate. still have yet to hear midlake.
these guys'll be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
