Topic: Rate Alex- 1-10 performing live Posted: April 14 2009 at 19:25 |
I was listening to Different Stages on the way home today, and I just couldn't believe the god-like sounds coming from his guitar. Then I realized how consistent he is, I also realized how he is fun to watch live. He is on hell of a performer- the best I have ever witnessed. He never tries to do too much playing, it's always the right blend of musicianship and technicality. He's funny, charming, and always looks cool on stage. I give him a solid 9. Can anyone be perfect??
How do you rate Alex? Why?

I gave him a 10. Completely agreed with your post. There's others guitarrist I like more or as much as him, like Jimmy Page or Jimmy Hendrix, but live Alex is far more consistent and his playing is so much more polished than most. You're also right about him being fun to watch.

Sorry but I have only heard his studio work and really do enjoy the versatility, consistency and harmony of technical skill/musicianship you speak of. The only Live I have heard or seen is the R30 DVD, and his playing seemed especially inspired. Otherwise I cannot really vote...

An 8 from me. His playing is consistently great, but otherwise I don't find him particularly interesting.

I'm going to go with an 8. He's consistent and a fun player to listen to. He's not an amazing player by any stretch of the imagination, but I've never seen him really make many mistakes live, if any.

10.
A 'Rock' fan at work, once said he regarded Lifeson as the weak link in the Rush chain. I've heard this said before, but no one has ever backed this up with eny evidence. Maybe it's because he doesn't play a thousand notes per second..whatever.
Lifeson is a superb musican, with a very distinctive sound and style, both live and in the studio. He is instantly recognisable, and plays wit great energy and emotion. He is indeed a consistently excellent player, with great command of the stage. I cant fault him.

I gave him an "8" and feel disgusted with myself to give such a low score!!!
To give a 10 is difficult though on Al god bless him.
"La Villa Strangiato" though is the one track I could put on repeat and just listen to it all day..
Love our Al.

I would give him a 10. Who else could play in a band with Neil Peart and Geddy Lee?

Having seen him live, I'd say 10. He doesn't make too many mistakes and is good at what he does.

And I'm really interested in why the person who gave him a 4 did so.
