Time to actually make some people angry.
There was a Pied Piper who said,
“We live in the greatest country in the world. Help me change it!”
*And the people said, “Change is good!” Then he said, “We are going to tax the rich fat-cats,”…*And the people said “Sock it to them!” “and redistribute their wealth.” *And the people said, “Show me the money!” And then he said, “Redistribution of wealth is good for everybody” *And Joe the plumber said, are you kidding me?” And Joe’s personal records were hacked and publicized. *And one lone reporter asked, “Isn’t that Marxist policy?” And she was banished from the kingdom! Then someone asked, “With no foreign relations experience, how will you deal with radical terrorists?” And the Pied Piper said, “Simple. I’ll sit down and talk with them and show them how nice we really are and they’ll forget that they ever wanted to kill us all!” Then the Pied Piper said, “I’ll give 95% of you lower taxes.” *And one, lone voice said, “But 40% of us don’t pay ANY taxes.” So the Pied Piper said, “Then I’ll give you some of the taxes the fat-cats pay!” *And the people said, “Show me the money!” Then the Pied Piper said, “I’ll tax your Capital Gains when you sell your homes!” *And the people yawned and the slumping housing market collapsed. And he said, “I’ll mandate employer- funded health care for EVERY worker and raise the minimum wage.” *And the people said, “Gim’me some of that!” Then he said, “I’ll penalize employers who ship jobs overseas.” *And the people said, “Where’s my rebate check?” Then the Pied Piper actually said, “I’ll bankrupt the coal industry and electricity rates will skyrocket!” *And the people said, “Coal is dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don’t care for that part about higher electric rates.” So the Pied Piper said, “Not to worry. If your rebate isn’t enough to cover your expenses, we’ll bail you out. Just sign up with ACORN and your troubles are over!” Then he said, “Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let’s grant them amnesty, Social Security, free education, free lunches, free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing.” *And the people said, “Ole`! Bravo!” And they made him King! And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy slowed even further. Then the Pied Piper said, “I am the Messiah and I’m here to save you! We’ll just print more money so everyone will have enough!” But our foreign trading partners said, “Wait a minute. Your dollar isn’t worth what it was. You’ll have to pay more.” *And the people said, “Wait a minute. That’s not fair!” And the world said, “Neither are these other, idiotic programs you’ve embraced. You’ve become a Socialist state and a second-rate power. Now you’ll play by our rules!” *And the people said, “What have we done?” But it was too late. If you think this is a fairy tale, open your eyes and ears. It’s happening RIGHT NOW! Did you know the president’s name is really an acronym… |

I once read a bumper sticker that said something along the lines of "If you're not pissed off, you haven't been paying attention."

I always appreciate intelligent responses. Oh wait. I'm an ignorant redneck. I guess I'm too stupid to know what's going on. |

I do hope that chainmail was posted in jest because that is one of the worst things I've ever read...Same with that "glossary". I'm not even a democrat, but people need to stop being SO STUPID.

Slartibartfast posts chain mail and comics/cartoon strips in this and other threads fairly often. Are you saying he's a moron too for deciding to post such things? And part of it is sarcasm to a mild extent. I'm not actually trying to anger people with these. I just want some (semi) intelligent feedback other than "THIS IS STUPID LOL". |

I am absolutely astounded..... This country (where I have chosen to live) is experiencing one of the worst crises in its history (and it's a worldwide crisis too), and all people like you seem to be able to do is to rub their hands in glee, expecting your new president (sworn into office less than three months ago) to FAIL. I'm sorry, but I really don't get it...
And, BTW, someone who aims at making people angry is generally called a troll... |

*Sighs*
I'm not expecting him to fail. Especially since his success is our success. I just disagree with the things he's done so far. Also, even apparently after my explanation and silly emoticons, I am not trying to anger people. Although in hindsight I probably should have made it more obvious that I was being sarcastic with that comment. And lastly, to say that it's just Obama that I'm upset at isn't true. I'm rather angry at the elitists who run Congress and only care about getting re-elected. In fact, they've angered me more than Obama has at this point. But like you said, he's only been around for three months whereas some of these clowns have been around for almost three years. |

I have always said that since the President is limited to 2 terms the same rules should apply to Congress and the Senate. Why should they work to get re-elected instead of doing the job that they were voted in to do. How many days do they work in a term and how much time do they spend away from Washington campaigning for their next term? I don't think that the framers of the Constitution envisioned public servants being lifelong titles. I don't see this changing for they enjoyed the perks as well as the health care that the majority of Americans seem not to have. |

This time I agree with David. We do have the same problem in Italy, with members of both houses of Parliament being elected over and over again, well into their '70s and '80s, leaving little space to younger people - and of course enjoying a lot of privileges that the general population can only dream of.
That said, I think that people are responsible for many of the things that happen, both in the US and elsewhere in the West. We are not helpless victims of military coups (as happens to the populations of far too many countries in the world), and indifference has its price. Politicians are just the expression of those who put them in office - I know it is true for Italy, and I suppose it is in most countries. The 'common' people should learn to fight for what it is really important, instead of accepting everything as inevitable. |

As I stated before somewhere here, there are 2 major crimes of the century (no, not the Supertramp, album, fer cryin...) 1- apathy and 2- easy judgment. Now that there are so few new disposable thrills left to squander, the world seems to enjoy the right to pre-judge everyone and everything. I guess anyone can claim to have a PhD in psychiatry/sociology , no one having the guts or the time to check credentials but why is it that the rest of the world is ready to embrace the freshness of a new president (after such a GWB ding-dong at best =after 8 years , we can now start judging, it's called history) , while here many Americans are not even giving the man time to get comfortable, calling him a marxist/ socialist. Frankly, "fanged-eagle", in my numerous travels to the USA, I have met few yanks who actually even know what communism is about and how to correctly decipher one in a crowd. If Obama is a commie then he is pretty darn retarded (as well as late for the Party, LOLOLOLOL) as there are only 2-3 communist governments left in the world. It is a proven failure, economically, politically, socially and philosophically. Ask Eastern Europeans what they lived through behind the Wall (no, not the Floyd album) and you realize that imbeciles come in various colors (red, white and f***ing blue) , that political parties that were once on the left are now on the right , or whichever way the bloody wind blows. Give the guy a chance, you remind me of the famous joke in the 70s , when a visiting US journalist to Moscow stated to a group of students that America is so free than any US citizen can overtly claim that president Nixon is an idiot, to which one sheepish CPSU card-holder replied" Pff, the Soviet Union is so free that any Soviet citizen can boldly state publicly that Nixon is a moron" Obama may turn out to be many things, even bad ones but a socialist , I doubt it,. Since past history seems to be the motto, going back to being emperor was a rather a Bush family thing, no? At least the election was fair this time around, hahahaha! What's next, Obama being an agent of North Korea, like the original Manchurian Candidate ?

I didn't say you, or he, are stupid, but yes, his cartoons and stuff are generally as dumb, although as I recall he refrains from posting outright chainmail. For some things, derisive laughter is the only possible response. One Big Astounding Mistake America is one of them.

But the US can't afford to make a mistake related to who they put in the office-not at the current stage of things. If my own country decides to elect a man who has sh*t instead of brains(for instance our current beloved president),that's ok,it's our problem to deal with, and my country's population is almost entirely composed by complete ignorants anyway(it hurts me to say so,but being these last 7 years disastrous to our internal economy as they were,it's the only compliment I feel able to offer).America,on the other hand, will cause collateral damage in the world for every wrong decision that is made. And the rest of the world is in constant watch, making it even more dangerous.I'm not completely convinced about Obama, but honestly, taking in consideration what has been reported from Iran and North Korea in recent times,I also believe if Mccain got elected we could start talking about one big war in a near future. |

Rather amusing that the legislative branch initiated term limits for the executive but didn't see fit to take care of themselves at the time. Well, since I've been reading some disparaging comments about my cartoon linkings, here's some more annoying cartoons for you : Those Darned Toxic AssetsEdited by Slartibartfast - April 06 2009 at 06:07 |

As a libertarian, I cannot support the manner in which the Bush adminstration was run, and am sadly worried about the direction of President Obama's adminstration. Hopefully, he will not give us more us the same; unfortunately, it seems that we learned nothing over the past 8 years about excessive and imprudent government spending. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and believe an intelligent man like himself can conjure up a better solution than digging us deeper into debt (which he is doing at the moment).

As I said earlier, the current crisis (Crisis, what crisis?) was 100% private sector fueled. Remember that day this past fall when gas went up 25 cents in one day? Well, that has never happened before and some federal bureaucrat went to find out why! Turns out that on that day there was little offer or demand, no explosions in Baghdad and no North Korean missiles launches. Just a plain old lazy day at the office except that speculators in futures decided that , "What the heck everyone (that 's the general public) is
asleep at the wheel , not paying attention, why don't we make a killing today?" Why not? The government (those bad bad bad men in black) moved in and PRESTO ! the price of gas had fallen in a jiffy and stayed down ever since!!!! and the speculators scattered like hungry hyenas , not liking the heat one bit. I mean really, how stupid can we all be???? !!!!
BTW, this rant was based on a "60 minutes" story called the "Price of Oil". See it and cringe. Some still believe "God bless 'em greedy b*****ds , they make America strong" . Question = whose America? Maybe Madoff should be president , seems he has the credentials some people (Americans) admire. Like OJ most feel bad about whether he gets caught or not, little interest in the crime itself. Obama and his overbearing stuffy government (I am Canadian, we know what oppressive government is ) couldn't do worse. Edited by tszirmay - April 07 2009 at 22:49 |

Can't say that I was ever offended by the cartoons.....seeing I am as guilty as the next man. The cartoons work both ways. There is nothing stopping either side of the political spectrum from having their say. Political cartoons have been around as long as there has been politics. |
