Indifferent towards him but his comeback year was last year, this is the year of Prior

Prior's mechanics are so bad that you can get injured simply by watching videos of him pitching.
The World Baseball Classic must stop now, before there are no American baseball players left at all.

As a KC Royals fan, any optimism I have at the beginning of the season is usually dashed by mid April; so, despite the fact that the Royals made some decent off season acquisitions has me looking at the season through a one-eyed squint. I want to believe, but my heart has been broken WAY too many times.

Sidney Ponson and Kyle Farnsworth are hardly decent acquisitions.

For KC it is. Who would want to live and play in KC?

The Tigers just became contenders again. They released Gary Sheffield. I don't believe that there has ever been a more obvious case of addition by subtraction then this move. He is stuck on 499 home runs, so it'll be interesting to see which team decides to give him a go so he can get his 500th.

Congrats!! I liked him early in his career but he became a douche and a cancer like Barry Bonds in his later years.

Looks like the Mets want the 40 y/o Shefield in their outfield. I can't imagine that they really need him to draw in fans to Citi Field.

If tonight's Tigers' game is any indication it is going to be another loooooooooooooooong season. Down 4 - 0 after 1 inning and 9 to 1 after 4 innings. Verlander was awful just like he was most of the season last year, and Halladay is basically unhittable, which he basically has been his entire career.

Please don't mention either of those two around me...have no idea why the Cubs didn't hold onto Wood, but we will see with Marmol and Gregg

Hopefully Verlander turns things around, he's such an exciting pitcher to watch when he's on his game. I thought the Jays would have a great season and if Opening Day is any indication, they may be up there in the AL East (everybody but the O's can win that division)

I had really high hopes for the Tigers last year, but after they got swept by the Royals at home in the opening series and started 0 and 8 or 9 (or whatever it was) they just never got it on track. Other than gettign rid of Sheffield they did very little to improve themselves in the offseason (in my opinion, although they claim they will be much better defensively). Starting the season the way did yesterday brought back all the bad feelings from the start of last year. A couple of seasons ago Verlander was awesome, and he had an occasional good game here and there last year but it seemed as though every game he was at or about 100 pitches by the 5th inning and it was time to go to the crappy bullpen. I am definitely more cautious about my optimism this year.

Yeah they made huge moves last offseason that it was justified to have huge expectations. If Verlander and Robertson return '06 levels then I don't see how they will not contend in the Central. With that in mind, they have a pretty solid roster and their division is certainly up in the air. As always, like you said, bullpen is a cause for concern.
Since many of my relatives live in Michigan, I like to see the Tigers do well; oddly enough my grandfather loved the Cubs and liked the Tigers so I naturally followed suit from a young age.

shame the fantasy league is DOA
MoM 5 Star division winner predictions:
AL
East: NY Yankees (I hate to make this pick for fear of jinx but I hate the Sox too much to pick them)
Central: Chicago White Sox (tough division to call but they seem to be the most cohesive unit)
West: LA Angels (no brainer really, Texas will finish 2nd but doesn't have the pitching to push LA)
NL
East: NY Mets (they have a bullpen now, keep an eye on the Marlins though)
Central: Chicago Cubs (simply the best team in this division)
West: LA Dodgers (ditto above)
Wildcards:
AL: Boston (argh, I hate them but they have it all and I do have several of their players in my keeper league)
NL: Florida Marlins (Yes, that's right, I have the champion Phillies on the outside looking in. Philly now has more championship teams then they'll ever deserve anyway )

There is some confusion on the fantasy league. There are six teams now. I just need to know if the interest is still there. The Pirates are still in first place.

Gonna have to disagree entirely about your AL West pick, manofmystery. Angels had remarkably good luck last year--though they would have run away with the division anyways--and their pitching staff has been decimated by injuries. Nobody can lose a starting pitcher to free agency and three more to injuries and be a "no brainer" to win a division. Texas has a startling lack of pitching, and they only have three or four good position players. I think the A's will slighly edge out the Angels through defense, young pitching, and a couple sluggers.

I still haven't shifted into baseball mode completely yet.... getting geared up for the run for the Cup. Wondering how...as a Caps fan... we will get our hearts ripped out this year. At least we wouldn't meet the Flyers until the conference finals
