some clarifications - Do I like or hate the person who was stabbed ? Do they love & support my adoration of Ange & Klaatu ? Could they have helped better the Montreal Canadiens' chance at a Stanley Cup this year ? Or, why did our loved one stabbed them ?

Let's assume the person murdered is irrelevant for you, just another human.
Let's assume they ignore Ange and Klaatu.
Let's assume they suck at hockey.
Let's assume they were killed. Maybe something crooked, some business, some revenge.. whatever...

But I will hear them first before I make a judgment.

Another twist, what if the family member had killed a member of your family instead of someone out of your family circle? I'm guessing you'd still hear them out first. Unless of course the family member were now coming after you with the murder weapon.

I get pretty nuts over the issue of violence. Anyone, who puts their hands on another person in violence..........i want *harsh* penalties. There is never an excuse.
I have just had enough of the animals in American culture who hurt other people. I don't care about their backgrounds, their victimhood, whatever....blah blah... You physically hurt another innocent person, I want you to suffer.

I would not turn them in to the police.
I would not harbor them.
I might give them some supplies and send them on their way.
I'd encourage them to give up, though, unless they were justified in killing, or they were framed, etc.

damn...
I couldn't imagine a situation where I'd turn in my father or mother... impossible
I'd feel even more repulsed (is there such a word) of myself turning them in than not doing it....
So many different perspectives...

Hm...
What ethical standpoint is made when physical violence is met with physical violence? Are we as a society so predisposed to this sort of revenge?
As a note, not all opinions expressed by me are inherently mine. Perhaps for future safety and reference I should make that my signature. :D

If it was someone in my family, then yes, I would turn them in. Then again I'm not all too close with my family. There are some people I would not turn in, but then again these are people with essentially a 0% chance of doing such a deed. I suppose if one of these people did commit murder they would hardly be the person I know now. There are so many different circumstances but I would say my desire to help them/not turn them in is relatively high compared to the previous posters pending on the murderer.

If they will kill again, then you really have no moral choice other than turning them in. If they certainly will not kill again, then it really comes down to whether you view jail as a matter of justice or protecting society.

You know, turning a person in might get them help; since we established in the first post that the killing wasn't justified, the killer in question is likely either unbalanced or involved in some sordid business. Arrest =/= conviction, and all the people here who are saying "I wouldn't help him/her, but I'd give 'em some stuff and send them on their way" are still (hypothetically) aiding and abetting. Just because they don't hide at your house doesn't put you in the clear. What would you rather have on your conscience: alerting the authorities and having your relative arrested and potentially helped or at least put in a correctional facility to atone, or run the risk of that person killing again, a death as much on your shoulders as the killer?
I cannot believe there is even a debate about this.

^ There can be a debate because there are many things involved here beyond the cold eys of reason... A situation like this involves emotions.... and deep ones at that...
And what if sending the loved one to jail means knowing they'll get raped/abused, etc? We all know what jails are....

What about the idea that justice is an opinion? That it is too subjective to be considered a physically manifested facet of reality?

Murder is murder. Even if the said attack didn't kill said victim, the intent was still to kill. I don't care who you are; if I find out about a crime you have committed that is this severe, then I'm reporting you. Sorry. Just the way it is with me. What's right is right. Right?

Why do you feel that what you think is right, is in fact right?
