And finally: As they slog through the political wilderness, conservatives are desperate for deliverance. All we need - they keep telling themselves - is just one meme so awesome, so powerful, that it will make the American people realize how wrong they are about us... and bring down the Democratic Party for ever!!!

Unfortunately the best they've come up with so far is 1) making silly allegations that the president is not really an American citizen, 2) using the word "socialist" a lot without actually knowing what it means, and 3) trying to dangle their balls in our mouths (I'm not kidding).

Interesting. This nutcase would never get away with that in the UK - he would almost certainly be charged by the police if not already hounded out by the media.

Do you regard it as a good thing that these views can be aired in USA? I am generally a libertarian socialist, so believe very much in freedom of speech, even if it offends. This can be a difficult position to take sometimes though!

I share your political affiliation, and as a citizen of a country who was under a dictatorship less than seventy years ago (I am Italian by birth, though now I live in the US), I am all too aware of the importance of freedom of speech. However, I can't help wondering at the way people seem to be abusing of this freedom. Whenever I read things like, "if it offends you, that's your problem, not mine", I can't help thinking this is just another form of violence. I firmly believe that my freedom ends when someone else's begins, and this is why I always hold myself in check even when I'd like to respond to someone in a very aggressive way (and it happens quite often, believe me).

Anyway, in my humble view of things, those to resort to slander and name-calling to make their point are severely flawed. Constructive criticism is not easy to achieve, but I believe smart, reasonable people can do it.

Time for me to anger some people again.

In the past few days there have been several reports about officials, high and low, using new politically correct language to describe things which have been around awhile.

The best example is the new head of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, refusing to use the word “terrorist.”  She preferred describing terrorist actions as “Man Caused Disasters.”

The problem with politically correct speech is that it hides the obvious. Even Big Freakin’ Hillbillies like me understand an illegal immigrant is someone who broke the law to get into this country. We of simple minds get confused when folks from the Ivy League start describing them as “migrants.” To us, migrants are plain spoken folk, those who waited in line, did the right thing and came here in accordance with our laws.

In order for us morons on the right to understand the newspeak of the Obama administration I offer this glossary of terms before and after being “Obamized.” Feel free to add to my list while you are still able.
