I also have a very slow brain these days. It's really quite alarming. One thing I really admire about you "chat-types" is the agility, wit, and speed in response. |

I'm slow but still somehow manage to reply quickly.
I'm brain-dead most of the time. |

Greg, try Pocket Orchestra.
And also, after Les Morts Vont Vite, Shub-Niggurath's sound changed and actually got darker still. ![]() |

Harrison Birtwistle. Nenia: The Death of Orpheus This is a vinyl rip. Not sure when it was recorded but it was composed in 1970. The vocals remind me of Dagmar Krause and Stella Vander. ![]() Plus it has bassoon on it. Edited by James - March 24 2009 at 12:25 |

I've been meaning to try Pocket Orchestra; thanks for the recommendation. Truth be told, over the last couple of years, my musical exploration has slowed to a trickle. Before that I was discovering music at such a ferocious rate (subsequently I would return to music I knew so damned well already).

http://www.avantgardeproject.org/agp91/index.htm Nenia is the piece I'm listening to. Other pieces by him: http://www.avantgardeproject.org/agp88/index.htm http://www.avantgardeproject.org/agp89/index.htm http://www.avantgardeproject.org/agp90/index.htm Antiphonies for Piano and Orchestra is also excellent. ![]() |

My FLAC files aren't updating properly... I change the ID3 tags and they don't change. Sometimes they do though.
Any ideas why this is? |

Incidentally, I want to discover some more recent chamber bands/ albums (one that are barely/ non-rock at all). SOme months ago I was listening to a lot of Aranis and Kronos Quartet, and love Ereia (Doctor Nerve with the Sirius String Quartet). I'm back into rock more now, but felt I was leaving it agin (as I did for many years before I came back to Progressive Rock for nostalgic reasons and discovered that it's a way more fertile and interesting, diverse umbrella than I had imagined, as we consider it here). Incidentally, what do people here think of Spock's Beard?

Chamber band recommendations:
Invert = like Kronos Quartet but with two 'cellists, a violinist and a viola player (I think) I have all their albums (available from CD baby) and they're excellent. Also try 1870. They're an Argentinian band that use electronics in their music. However, they're firmly routed in chamber music. |

Thanks. That is a great site that I haven't used for a while. Will download too (must make room on my harddrive or finally set up my external harddrive on this old computer). |

Good piece. I think I like Antiphonies the best. That's probably because it's 33:52 in length and it doesn't feel too short. ![]() |
