Oooh, let me know your thoughts....I've always wondered about that title!
|
I'm not even done with my first listen and I'm very, very impressed. Take the vocal style and compositional sensibilities of Van der Graaf Generator. Mesh them with some Black Sabbath
inspired guitar riffs. Now stir in a slew of classic and modern
eclectic prog influences. There's so much stuff in here it's dizzying
(they just worked in a trumpet, flute and car horn) but
somehow it all fits and blends incredibly well. It doesn't sound
like a patchwork of styles and comes across as a seamless, original
sound. It's dark, heavy, brooding and on top if it all it freaking
rocks.
Think of a heavier Matthew Parmenter but more intense and varied.
|
Thanks for the mini-review, sounds like something I'd like. Are the vocals English, and if so, are they heavily accented with poor construction? Or pretty decent?
|
Wow, your question just made me realize that by the time I got to the end of the album, I had forgotten that this was an Italian band. I noticed an accent in the vocals, especially in the earlier tracks but I stopped noticing them after a few minutes. I think the construction and style serves to minimize the effects of the accent. He sounds more "otherworldy" in a Peter Hammill kind of way. It's definitely not like the train wrecks of PFM or New Trolls where you wish they'd stop trying and sing in Italian.

Thanks Mike, in that case I'm on board. I love otherworldly doom music. Have you tried the second Jacula album yet??
