Subject: Is there an absolute
reality?
Rush, the intellectual leader of the Party of
Bush, says that it's OK to want Obama to fail because Democrats
wanted Bush to fail. Did Democrats
want Bush to fail? Absolutely! Does that make it
the same thing? Absolutely not!
Even though it's true on the surface that the
Democrats fought against Bush the way Rush is fighting Obama, there is
a
big difference and that difference is reality.
Many of us on the Left believe in an absolute
reality. We believe reality actually exists. Many of us are monorealistic
in that we believe in the one true reality that
we all live in. That we live in a world where what is true is different
than
what is false. We believe in cause and effect.
We believe that if you make the wrong choices that you are likely to
suffer the consequences.
Many on the Right don't believe in an absolute
reality. They think reality is all in the mind and that the consequences
of your actions don't matter. They believe that
if you convince enough people to believe something that it replaces reality.
For the last 8 years we had a president who turned
his back on reality and reality is now punishing us for our sins.
We are learning the hard way that bad choices
have bad consequences. America has elected a new president who is
dedicated to embracing reality and making reality
our friend. There is a difference between right and wrong, between
failure and success, and we have chosen to do
it right and succeed. We Realists invite the Republicans to join us in
embracing reality. Be part of the solution, not
part of the problem. Reality changed my life, it can change your life too!

Last week's Conservative Political Action Committee
in Washington offered a rich spectacle. Except it wasn't the usual
sideshow barkers who provided the most bizarre
entertainment; it was the headline speakers, notably Rush Limbaugh
and Mike Huckabee. Between them, they made Bobby
Jindal sound statesmanlike.
ha ha
Jindal, after all, was merely pitching sweet feed
to the cattle. But was it wise to argue that government doesn't work by
citing Bush's feckless response to Katrina? To
mock as wasteful the U.S. Geological Survey's monitoring of volcanoes?
The same agency funds river gauges and tidal
monitors, of interest to the Bayou State. Heck, why not throw in the
do-nothing National Weather Service? Why watch
the weather if you can't change it?
Which brings us back to Limbaugh and Huckabee.
Sweating like a draft horse, and appearing to have gained the
hundredplus pounds that Huckabee famously lost,
Limbaugh all but anointed himself titular head of the GOP.
OK, so he's never held office or participated
in open debate. Where an ordinary mind might be daunted by the
spectacular economic wreckage left behind by
George W. Bush, Limbaugh's is an other-worldly doctrine.
Conservatism cannot fail, it can only be failed;
hence, its patron saint, Ronald Reagan, is remembered only for cutting
income taxes during his first term. His subsequent
tax increases-nearly doubling the Social Security tax, for example
- are never mentioned. This, Bush refused to
do, resulting in the near-doubling of the national debt that Republicans
have suddenly rediscovered with a Democrat in
the White House.

Subject: COLD WINTER
It was late fall and the Indians on a remote reservation in
South Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be
cold or mild.
Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been
taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell
what the winter was going to be like. Nevertheless,
to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed
going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect
firewood to be prepared.
But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an
idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service
and asked, 'Is the coming winter going to be cold?
'It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,' the meteorologist at the weather service responded.
So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.
A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?'
'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'it's going to be a very cold winter.'
The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.
Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again.
'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?'
'Absolutely,' the man replied.. 'It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen.'
'How can you be so sure?' the chief asked.
The weatherman replied, 'Because the Indians are collecting firewood like crazy.'
Always remember this whenever you get advice from a government official!

I'll stop with this. Don't want to make most of you TOO angry at me. A PROPHETIC 1944 SPEECH
Norman Mattoon Thomas (November 20, 1884 -
December 19, 1968),
and some of us are old enough to remember him running for President,
was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential
candidate for the Socialist Party of America. Norman Thomas said
this in a 1944 speech:
"The American people will never knowingly
adopt socialism. But,
under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the
socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation,
without knowing how it happened."
He went on to say: "I no longer need to run
as a Presidential
Candidate for the Socialist Party . . . The
Democratic Party has
adopted our platform."

I just wonder about one thing.... Since you all seem to be so obsessed with Socialism, do you at least have any idea of what it is? I remember someone saying in this same thread that Obama was a Marxist... I refrained from intervening, because it wouldn't have been pretty, but I'll just say this one thing: before you fling labels around that are not here nor there, make sure you know what you are talking about.

Could you just imagine what it would be like for the US to have 50 or more political parties ? Can you just imagine the confusion? the media maelstrom /maze that would fuel the insanity? No, just a donkey and an elephant, how fitting! Calling Obama a Marxist and the Democrats socialists is simply laughable and ultimately, puerile! I wonder sometimes,

Subject: cheap GOP b*****ds
Somebody is handing these things out to waitresses
in Arizona instead of tips.
What kind of evil prick does a person have to
be to give this to somebody working for less than minimum wage,
maybe trying to support kids, a card that basically
says, "I'm going to eat out because I can't see any reason to deprive myself,
I want credit for bravely making this sacrifice
for your sake, and oh, about your tip - f**k you. It's Obama's fault."
Oh wait. A republicant would do that.
WilliamC
It figures that a struggling waitress might've voted for Obama so the
Rethugs get "even" this way.
But look at the bright side - next time the waitress will spit on their
food before serving it.

Democrats while not pushing a complete socialist order do employ many of its tenants. For example in Obama's Tax restructure he has asked that the wealthy (or what he claims to be wealthy) be taxed at a higher rate and have deductions limited. The revenue that is earned from this will be redistributed to people making less money in the forms of Tax Credits or in his upcoming health care package. Like it or not redistribution of wealth is a socialist goal.
I am not debating if these things are good or if they will work. I am merely stating that Obama and most of the Democrats do invoke a socialist leaning political view. The problem being is that the Republicans have used the word in a negative sense so Democrats actually get offended when they are called socialists.
Whatever.

Brian, I have nothing against socialism, on the contrary. However, what Obama is doing is what happens in most western European countries, many of which (including Italy) are ruled by conservative-leaning government coalitions. Therefore, seeing my country or others branded as 'socialist' makes me laugh. And don't get me started on the whole 'Obama is a Marxist' farce ...
