What kind of guitar do you use?

Les Paul,always.Though I don't own a Gibson....have to be glad enough with a nice Epiphone.

only one i own. been meaning to get an electric for a while but the funds just arent there.
im much better on acoustic anyways.

^I'm not a big fan of the SG, in particular the neck dive as a result of the design irritates me quite a lot and the size of the neck fatigues my hands way too quickly , but nonetheless congrats on the purchase mate, and glad to hear you like it

^You should be able to match the outputs by lowering/raising one or the other pickups, although it may in fact be the case that the bridge pickup is bit a lower output than I imagine.
If you put an Alnico 8 magnet in there (I assume the pickups are Alnico II or V from stock), it will raise the output a bit to hopefully match the neck pickup, give the mids a bit more punch and tighten up the bass a little.

For a start, the DT555 does have a locking nut, so that's hardly the problem per se.
The DT555 is over 20 years old now, if not around 25 years if I recall.
Assuming that the bridge is based on a dual fulcrum system, the knife edges are most likely well past their use by date if the trem system was used regularly due to burrs forming on the knife edges, meaning the trem can no longer return to the zero point, and there may possibly be burring in the bridge saddles as well, which is going to affect tuning stability too.
If you get the fretboard re radiused to 15 inches you can then fit a Kahler 7200 trem and new locking nut.
The 15 inch radius is required because Kahlers are pre-radiused to 15 inches from factory.
This will solve your tuning stability problems.
Although, note that Kahlers cannot flutter, if you're into that sort of thing.

Some prefer the more rounded sound of them compared to vintage pickups, other people dislike the pickups for the very same reason.
