Most music that is commercially released these days is absolute garbage and it's not getting any better.
You have to dig deep for the good stuff these days but it is out there if you look.
To me Rap is the worst excuse for music ever presented to the public by the fat white pant loads that run the music industry.

I must be far too eclectic because I dig at least a few artists from all of those genres...

Reminds me of this evergreen classic (edited):

I don't 'despise' any kind of music - I save such emotions for things (or people) that have done something bad to me. If I don't like a band, artist or musical genre, I don't listen to it. That simpleWink!

Sometimes you are forced to listen to things. Where I work the radio is pretty loud and well... if I hear Shine by Take That once more in my lifespan, I may turn emo myself. I would walk round with my fingers in my ears, but how am I suppose to rearrange clothes racks with no hands free?

Pardon me if it's already been asked as this thread is on it's fourth page and I haven't been keeping up, but why does rap have such a bad rap? LOL

I voted for country only because that's a close to despise I can get when it comes to music, but the term "I don't care for" the most is really more fitting.

Despise may sound as a really harsh word but , I challenge anyone on this site to have a 5 hours trip with the same REGGETON compilation running again and again.

Ignorance is bliss, eh? Wink How about which music makes you bleed out the ears the most?

I think I could find something to appreciate in each of the genres mentioned, and in a few, I already do.

Sorry I have to throw this one in.  Blame Crimhead for linking to it in the cartoon thread:

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Probably because it was taken over by the gangstas.

Old skool rap was actually a lot of fun.

And prog fans in general are against fun, so there goes old skool rap too.

I voted rap, but I could have easily voted country. It's not that they are the worst, it's just that that is what I am subjected to, and therefore have built up the most abhorrence for. I can't stand most stuff on the radio, it's  amazing how people have been amused by the same tired formulas for years and years.
Here are some questions I have been pondering for some time now: Have any of you ever heard an instrumental song on a pop radio station? On a country station? Obviously techno and other such dance music is instrumental. When is the last  time you heard of a member of a pop/rap group being praised as a virtuoso?

I despise the creation of another one of these genre-hating polls.

What, do you have something better to do?

We don't, and don't you dare judge us.

It's not about genre hating per se, or I would have phrased the poll question more vehemently. I was just curious to see what genre would be the polar opposite in terms of taste to most proggers . The word "despise" is certainly less rigid than "hate" but it brought about  4 pages of interesting commentary. It is interesting that rap is viewed as non-musical and more poetic style and that country seems to be too "product" manufactured . Both are essentially true from the prog context and that is why this poll is eye (or ear ) opening! IfThere was no intent to bash anything except perhaps reggaeton ! LOLWinkConfusedEmbarrassed

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

There are no circumstances that can make mocking reggaeton, smooth jazz, acid jazz, pop-punk, and post-grunge wrong. And I don't care what anybody says!

I do like the song What is Love, though, but I'm not sure why.

There are no virtuosos in that music. that music(pop, rap) seriuosely demages health. Keep away from children!!!!
How can be virtuoso oneself , for ex.  he(50 cent ,) was selling drugs in the streets , and suddenly he came up with a brilliant idea to become a rap star!! what a star he is!! what does he know about music, he pick up musical education in the street?  and everyone  praise him '' look at him he became star out of nothing !! wow ) drug virtuoso maybe ?! and he  was showing off with wounds of gunshots all over his body.  no instrumental song cos there are no instrumental parts in that songs, it(pop songs) are such a cliche,
