The Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks are playing "pond" hockey at Wrigley Field today on national television (NBC).  Unfortunately, I suspect that competing with the New Year's Bowl games, nobody is watching.  Heck, they're going head to head against the Michigan State Spartans playing the Georgia Bulldogs, so the Red Wings are probably losing half of their audience right there.

Anyhow, the Blackhawks just scored a power play goal and lead the Red Wings 2 to 1 in the 1st period.

The Wings got busy in the second and hammered those youngsters hard. Too bad we gave up that late goal.... Disapprove

Yep.  It didn't look good when the Wings fell behind 3-1 in the 1st period, but the way that they have been playing this year, I suppose that they had Chicago right where they wanted them.

I'm out of here for the night.  Going to my first Wings game of the year tonight.  They are playing the Stars.  This is probably my latest "1st game" in at least 10 years.  Looking forward to it though.  Should be a good game against good competition.

Great game last night!!!  The Red Wings looked awesome.  They beat the Stars 6 to 1, scoring 2 goals in each period.  The Stars goalie, Marty Turco, played college hockey at the University of Michigan.  For whatever reason, as good of a goalie as he is, he has an absolutely atrocious record against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.  I can't remember if he has ever beat the Wings in Detroit, but if he has, is record would still be something like 2 wins and 20 losses.

Yeah, The Wings are on fire... Hot Wings. I just hope they don't blow their wad too soon. The playoffs are still a long way off.

This thread has grown about as cold as the playing surface that they play on.  I'm heading down to the game tonight between the Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings.  I haven't been down in quite a while this year, so I am looking forward to it.  Go Wings!!!!!!

The Red Wings are doing battle with their former top rivals the Colorado Avalanche in Denver tonight.  So far they are tied 1 -1 about 6 minutes into the 2nd period.

Yeah!!!! Again.  Kris Draper just scored his 7th goal of the season to give the Red Wings a 3 to 1 lead.  After Colorado's Claude "The Turtle" Lemieux rearranged Kris' face with a nasty hit into the boards all of those years ago to start this nasty little rivalry it is great to see Kris extract a bit more revenge from the Avs. Clap

Colorado scored with a minute and a half left to make it 3 to 2, but the Red Wings held on to win by that score, and they now have the top record in the NHL.  I am kind of surprised that they didn't make any deals at the deadline.  The Red Wings always seem to pick up a big name or 2 at the deadline so it is quite surprising that they stayed pat this year.

Penguins call up Satan

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- Longtime NHL forward Satan has cleared waivers and been recalled by Pittsburgh as the Penguins end the regular season and head to the playoffs.

The move was announced Friday.

Satan had 17 goals and 19 assists in 65 games with Pittsburgh before being sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL in a salary cap move at the March 4 trading deadline.

Satan was demoted after Pittsburgh picked up forwards Bill Guerin, Chris Kunitz and Craig Adams before the deadline.

At Wilkes-Barre, Satan had three goals and six assists in 10 games.

He rejoins the Penguins in time for Saturday's regular-season finale at Montreal and the start of the playoffs next week. He has 15 goals and 23 assists in 56 career playoff games.

Satan was a Detroit Viper, the former local minor league hockey team in his first year in professional hockey and their first year of existence.  They also had Sergei Samsonov and Petr Sikora who both have had pretty lengthy, although nothing spectacular, NHL careers.  Sadly their careers have lasted longer than the Vipers existence.

Wow! pretty good hockey, no? The playoffs are amazing the Caps vs Pens is awe inspiring , both Ovechkin and Crosby and that guy Varlamov! (not just that save of the century in game 2!) but the Wings pounded by the Ducks? Vancouver rebounding, Carolina rebounding, just insane intensity! Some of the best hockey ever....... Could be 4 game sevens! Would that not be insane?
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.
