Well, a friend of mine reccomended these guys to me, just wanted to get some proggers' opinions. I don't think they are prog, but they are definately talented, musicianship wise. Vocally, alright. Lyrically, I prefer not to look the lyrics up.

Here is a video.

I really like the song, and I sincerely hope the video is supposed to be tongue and cheek.

I enjoy Dimmu Borgir enough. I think they're really cool and have an interesting sound. I know plenty of people dislike them because apparently they sold out from being black metal. I haven't heard their earlier stuff so I wouldn't know but I think they're great.

Oh man this takes me back to the days when I wore spikes and studs and finger armour and all black clothes and more mascara than your mother

thank god those days are over

Seriously though, I still enjoy these guys, saw their video that got me into them just a couple of days ago, actually, this one:

a little bit over the top, but very enjoyable

Early Dimmu is the best.  For all Tid, Stormblast and Enthroned Darkness Triumphant all are ace albums.

I´ve never enjoyed symphonic black metal much but you gotta give it to them. They are damn professional composers and performers ( saw them live on the tour for Spiritual Black Dimensions and they sure know how to entertain).

And my God Mike was that something of a confession LOL.

Dimmu are great , i listen to  black  metal a lot , especially symphonic one. Death Cult Armageddon has some proggy touch, sinematic soundscapes, many instrumental parts, vortex clean vocals,  Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is great  album, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is very good .

Their early stuff is okay, but I prefer to listen to Black Metal and not blackened pop. Tongue

In all seriousness, the synthies are used in a horrible way and take away from the Black Metal spirit. I like my BM muddy and harsh, not overproduced. Can't even stand Emperor.

Anyway, for a 'black metal' band that is able to use synthesisers properly, look up Sigh. They aren't really black metal, more blackened psychedelic hard rock, but for what it's worth, their use of synthesisers is at least able to create a mood.

it's a pitty , Emperor are are class act, i love them, you should  make more effort in exploring them more deeply it worth all the effort you put. Sign are not in the same category as Dimmu , Sign are progressive, with black metal influences , Dummu are diferent story .I disagree with you on synths ,  it gives a dynamic, trace the rute towards wich melody flows, gives the excitement. dimmu are doing great job with synths .

I like Dimmu and Emporer, but think Cradle of Filth have produced much better albums.

And I am not even vaguely interested in reading negative views on CoF unless there is at least some validity in them Wink
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Cradle of Filth are great,  Nymphetamine is very good album, Dusk And Her Embrace , .. and on the new Godspeed On The Devils Thunder they abandon the black metal feeling except the vocals, but in general it's pleasent album, melodic, i like it.
