Hi!

Von Hertzen Brothers
are from Finland, they are not really famous outside their country where their albums meet a huge success! I didn't find a thread dedicated to them, so here it is Tongue

It's my greatest discovery of 2008!

So what about music? It's not a complex progressive rock for the brain here but more of an emotional progressive pop rock, very melodic and catchy.

Their first album is good, but the second one, Approach, and the last one, Love Remains The Same, are FANTASTIC!! It's sometimes melancholic, sometimes nostalgic... Songs are sometimes quite long (10 minutes)...

The song called "The Willing Victim" is absolutely beautiful! Modern prog as its best for me! No technical demonstration with this band, only catchy melodies and rythm changes.

Is there any fan here?

Oh yes, definitely. Experience is a very good debut (by veteran artists in their own right though), a solid piece of psychedelic flavored rock, but Approach took the band on a completely different level,  to which they made it again with Love Remains the Same. Fantastic albums, no doubt. Approach maybe a little better. Some of the best songs include Let Thy Will Be Done, Endlessly, Kiss a Wish, The Willing Victim and the absolutely radiant I Came for You. The best band to come from Finland on this decade along with Overhead.

Absolutely!! They're not really famous here in France but I try to spread the word ;)

I'm really blown away by their music!

People always ask me to compare with some other bands but I think they're quite unique even if we can hear some influences here and there...

I'm searching for similar modern prog rock without success...

Have you tried Kingston Wall? They are mentioned together quite often. They're from Finland as well, the main man Petri Walli was Kie von Hertzen's school buddy and they used to play and write music together before Walli founded Kingston Wall and Kie went to Don Huonot.

Almost broke down in tears at work in front of people today while listening to I Came for You and letting my mind wander to all the loved ones I could lose. Really had to focus and fight back. Such a magnificent song that it's sometimes hard to listen.

I only listen to one or two songs from Kingston Wall but I was not sure about Von Hertzen Brothers similarities... I have to listen to KW more :)

"I Came For You" is absolutely beautiful and emotional as "The Willing Victim"... Epic and emotional!

My favourite album is still Love Remains The Same...

Do you know if a new album is planned soon?

They're playing the Jazz Cafe in London on the 17th Feb.
Who's going to be there apart from me?

I heard them live at the "Down by the Laituri" festifal a couple of years ago. OK, but not great, in my opinion.

All right, added the new album to PA as well. I've listened to it a couple of times already, and it's quite a lot better than the ones before. I love the sounds/mixing.

Also, some interview mentioned them saying, that the next stop is taking over Great Britain. Bet it was a joke, but I'd gladly see them getting their needed appreciation abroad as well!
