I only just found out about the Zeuhl genre in its entirety in early 2008. I feel like I've wasted the last 15 years of my life, this stuff is REALLY good.

Isn't shoegazer a recent tag? Jesus & Mary Chain have been around for decades. |

But was it called that back then? I remember mod/goth/new wave/new-ro/cyberpunk/industrial (etc.) but not shoegaze(r). And I never heard of J&MC referred to as such. |

Well, I guess for 2008, there were a few. Although a couple of them I had liked, but never really got into until 2008.

being a lover of krautrock, stereolab is now one of my favorite bands. i fell in love with them very quickly. I know they are not considered prog usually but they are great if you enjoy can, faust and/or neu. check them out.

I don't know about the most important (plus I think I already posted in here somewhere?) But I'm very glad I started listening to more Soft Machine, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Synergy-Electronic Realizations for a Rock Orchestra, and VERY importantly Edgar Varese
