Most of Progressive Rock comes from England. There is a lot of strange things from England too which is not easy to understand from those of us who are from the outside, looking in.

Please explain to us (and debate) these things:

- Cream tea and afternoon tea

- Cricket

- Garden sheds

- Rugby

- Pubs

- Crosswords puzzle

- The House Of Lords

- Magna Charta

- Left right driving

- The Home Counties

- "Up North"

- Roundabouts spotting

- Shakespeare

- Grammar Schools

- Public schools

All these things are very central items in the English and the Canterbury Scene. Bands like GENESIS and CARAVAN is all about these things. We need to understand these things before we understand the world of English prog rock. Well, prog rock in general. 

Please explain !

The habit is not portuguese but it was a daughter of one of our kings that got married with king Charles II of England that brought the tea leaves to England and started the habit of 5 o'clock tea.

Left /right driving:
 
Until about two centuries ago, driving on the left side of the road was common in all West-European countries, but Napoleon preferred right driving and pushed it wherever his influence reached.
Because he had no power in England, The English held to the left side. And being fond of their own ways, they also maintained their length and weight units. I think that the meters and kilograms that we use on the Continent date from the same time.
