Well, I've been writing alot of music lately, but don't have all the instruments to turn them into fully recorded songs, so I've been reaching out to certain members here on the forums, and I've been successful in getting some volenteers who will help me flesh out my concept, but there is a problem.

Somebody on here (who shall remain nameless) originally said that if I sent him the gp5 file of one of my songs that he would lay down the acoustic guitar and drum tracks for the song, then hend it back to me for completion. Well, he changed his mind at the last minute, and now I don't have a drummer or acoustic guitarist for this track.

Another member on here has offered to play drums for some of the songs, but he would be coming up with his own stuff, where as this song has the drum parts already written.

If somebody could help me out on this, I would be most helpful. It's purely a volentary act, however, because I haven't any extra expenses to offer payment at the moment, but I will give credit to whoever helps me out in the liner notes of the song in question.

Take care, my friends.

Haha, of course I know where you stand on this, Alex. Forgive me for not mentioning you by name LOL

Yes, let it be known that The Pessimist is indeed helping me out with my project, and I am very grateful to him.

BUT.........

I still need someone who could lay down a drumtrack that follows the drum notation I've already wirtten for this particular song.

I wouldn't even mind it if the drums were programmed, just as long as they sounded real and followed what I wrote accurately.

Such a dillemma. I wish I knew how to do all that stuff myself, but I just don't.Unhappy

If it is written in GP5 I could run it through sonar and record out the drum on a wav track and send it back to you. The drums would be generated by a roland soniccell but they sound okay.

I don't quite understand why you haven't accepted the offer of real drums though- and give the drummer full reign. They will probably enhance what you have already done, not detract from it.

Anyway, you can get an idea of the sound you would get by going here:
There's a few samples still up there.

Well, the only reason I have chosen to not hand this particular song over to my other drummer friend is because I think he likes to come up with his own stuff rather than play what someone else has already written for him, which makes perfect sense, and I'm fine with that, but in this particular case, I have written all of the song's parts myself already and I already have an image in my head of what the song will sound like finished, and to hear it with completely different drum parts wouldn't serve the song well, in my opinion. In the future, I plan on leaving the rest of my songs unfinished enough to where the folks that are collaborating with me can have more creative input involving their own instruments' parts, but this song is already done, more or less (Except for some piano work that I will let my friend The Pessimist come up with).

I know it's probably a bit prideful of myself to wanna stick to exactly what I wrote in the drum department, especially since I'm not a drummer myself, but yeah . . . I'm young yet, so hopefully I'll grow out of my narcissism before too long. Tongue

Erhm . . . no offense, but those drumtracks in the link you sent sound pretty fake. I mean, I'm not at all aopposed to you helpoing me out with this, but I wouldn't want to feel like it was all a big waste if I hear the result and decide not to use it.

It's up to you. If you still wanna help me out, then let me know and I'll along the download link to the GP5 file.

Peace and love.

No offence taken- they sound a little fake because they are fake. They are generated by the roland synth chip in the soniccell from midi signals. You could perhaps look for someone who has a true digital sampling card, such as the roland SRX series which can be added as a plug-in card, then you will get true drums. Most keyboard companies have versions of these. There may be others on board who have digital drum cards on their keyboards who could help out.

The best suggestion is still to find a drummer and give them freedom. The end result will be better.

Not all fake drums sound fake (Meshuggah's Catch 33 album had a drum machine on it the entire time Wink).

I will give my drummer freedom on every other song I haven't already written the drums for, Tongue.

So I take this as a 'no', then?

re Meshuggah- Yes, but more than likely the drum machine used digital sampling- it wasn't a synth chip generating drums.

And yes, the offer is still there.

But, before we go any further:
Do you have a professional music studio suite that can import wav files? I suppose I am asking - what are you using for the recording. You have only mentioned Guitar Pro and I wonder why you have not used the music studio to produce midi? After all, I would need to export the GP5 file out of Guitar Pro as midi before I can use it in sonar. If you don't have a music studio suite, I don't know how you are going to use a wav file.

Hmm, well I would just be using the programs I use to record my own instrument inputs. I use audacity and cool edit pro for now, but could get my hands on alternative programs if need be. Pretty sure thiose would workl, though, if you're sending the drum trakcs as wav.

You could check out some drum VST's, but since I'm not sure what recording equiptment you're using I don't know if they will work.  VST's work like midi, but use actual recorded drums so they are technically 'real' drums.  I've heard Tomas Haake's Drumkit for Hell is good.  It was used on Meshuggah's Catch 33 (I think) and Devin Townsend's Ziltoid the Omniscient.

Well, the drum sounds ended up sounding alot better than I thought they were going to, so I have to give a big thank you to cobb2. Alan, you saved the day on this one! Smile Rest assured that when this Demo CD comes out, you will get an honerable mention (Unless of course my music sucks, and upon hearing the finished product, you wish to not be associated with such an atrocity, in which case I will honor that wish as well.)

Now on to the other matter . . . anyone here wanna help me out with the acoustic guitar parts? Not the entire song is made up of acoustic guitar work; I can play all the electric guitar stuff, but you see, I don't have an acoustic of my own, and the clean sound on my electric guitar doesn't cut it (I already tried recording it that way, and even when the awesome drum sounds from Alan included on the track, it just doesn't sound as warm or full as it could if an acoustic were playing those sepcific parts.

Not to worry; the acoustic guitar parts are very easy to play. Anyone who has read the score for this song obviousely knows what I'm talking about. Just basic chords and rhythm structures, nothing too awfully difficult.

If no one volenteeres, then I will just ahve to wait until I can get an acoustic myself. Not a huge problem; but it would be very appreciated of course if someone would be willing to help.

Do you already have an acoustic guitarist?
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

^ I do not. The only person playing guitar in this project so far is myself, and frankly, my acoustic guitar playing is more than a little suspect.

Any help whatsoever in the acoustic guitar department would of course be appreciated, and all the due credit will be given as well. Though, I've already layed down the acoustic guitar tracks for my first song.

However, there is plenty of room for acoustic guitar in this project of mine, and since only one song has been recorded so far, there is still plenty of room for input from other people where all of the instruments are concerned.

I'm in as per PM.

The following is kind of the style I do, this isn't the prettiest recording but it's not bad:

Thanks, yeah that's an original composition. My quirky FACACF tuning. Appreciate the listen. I look forward to working with Micah. It should be fun.
