It's a tough one. In my opinion, their easiest to listen to is In Praise of Learning. However, you may not like Dagmar Krause's vocal style. It's in my opinion their weakest release but it's not terrible either. My favourite is Western Culture but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. I'd say start at the beginning and get a copy of Leg End. it's always best to hear how a band first started off and how their music developed, in my opinion.

It's called The Long Black Veil, and sees guest appearances by the likes of Sting. Mick Jagger and the whole of the Stones, Mark Knopfler and Tom Jones.

![LOL LOL](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) Thats almost the same as diss'en Stevie Wonder. Van also did another album similar to the Long Black Veil with the Chieftains which is called The Long Journey Home and was the soundtrack for the Irish doco on the Hunger ( Famine) and on this one the artists are mainly Irish but one of the standouts is Sissel track 11. She is Finnish I think. Marianne Faithfull and Sinead O'Connors songs with Van are my Favourites off the Long Black Veil
