This would rather be a practical question then a  technical one. There are lots of unreviewed singles laying around in the Archives, with songs, which I can simply listen to from another release. Is it enough to know all the tracks individually and then put the opinions together to form a review, or I better let them alone without owning the single itself?
yeah

I would suggest that you need to own or have access to the single. It may be a different edit, different recording, different mix etc. The other tracks may not be taken from albums, or may be live versions etc.

^ also not forgetting the b-side, which can (nay should) be reviewed too since we are Proggers who play both sides of a single... in fact many of us buy singles because the b-side contains tracks unavailable elsewhere.
What?

You're right, I never would review something that I don't know entirely (see mine of Supermassive Black Hole). But when the B-side was also released on another/the same album, would you suggest me to review it?

And Bob, what if I could listen to the edits for example via YouTube?
yeah

Personally I would not - and with a clear conscience I could not. It's not something I would encourage either - to review a product you need to own or have access to the product - you cannot be sure that the album or youtube version is the same as the one on the single (a or b side).

Okay, thanks for helping me! You're right, I won't rate in that way.

But one more question...remastered editions often contains b-sides, and I have this version of Tormato. Don't Kill the Whale's b-side was Abilene, one of the bonus tracks. Is it the same as the other situations, or can I trust that it is not edited since released on the single?
yeah

No hard and fast rules here Diably, if you're comfortable you have the right tools to do the reivew, it's entirely your shout.Wink The ProgArchives inspectorate will not be knocking down your door demanding that you prove you have the single.LOL

I'd better suppress my location LOL

Anyway, thanks, Bob, I'll always consider it well before reviewing anything!
