Adblock makes the ads disappear ... I don't think that it's bad for your website commercially, because those who use it would probably never click the ads anyway. I wouldn't ... ![]() |

I've been using Opera as long as I can remember. It's got the best abilities. Especially what I don't like about Firefox is that there's no one-button shortcut to new tabs. So every tab must be opened separately. and I hate it when a browser opens new sites in new windows, whenn they could all be on the same window. Just clutters up the screen. Anyway, Opera has become really REALLY slow. It takes up 90% of my memory while loading a Java application. Other than that it's the best in every way. It lacks the support from programs like SpywareBlaster, but there is no need for such. Basically only because Opera still is so unknown, they just donät make browser-related viruses for it. At least I haven't got any. Recommended. |

I second this!!
![]() ![]() M@, you oughta see some of the sh*tty adds on your site!!! There is one asking me if I like Shakira? And I can't even answer only in my bed
![]() ![]() I suggest you browse you site without all of your "protection" once in a while, just to see the site normally and how it is for web newbies.
As for myself at work, I still use IE (out of habit , but it's also what's proposed by our server) and at home I'm trying out more Mozilla

I used to use Firefox, but when I upgraded to IE7 I found it to be just as fast or faster; go figure. Bottom line is we're all still here. |

^ Was that Firefox 2? If so, you should give Firefox 3 a try ... it's much faster than either Firefox 2 or IE7.

Firefox runs slower but has more stuff you can implement on it. Maybe the most important this is that IE is not as safe. Just one or two months ago Microsoft had released a warning for all user, asking everyone to quit using IE for a while and change it with another browser, until a serious security threat gets resolved. |

Dude, I just installed Chrome. It's weird
![]() I like it though. Pretty darn fast.

I'm currently using Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 ... it's really fast, especially on "web 2.0" sites which make heavy use of scripting. And all that with Adblock and Noscript installed, two plugins which actively check and rewrite all the scripts for safety reasons.

I use Mozilla Firefox exclusively.
However I have experienced a few weird errors recently and I don't know why... one site just shows as HTML code whilst in IE7 it works fine. I shall try and update it to a newer version and see if that works. I'm using 3.0.5 at the moment. And Passionist, I'm pretty sure you can download an applet that allows you start a new tab from the main screen. Besides, it's being lazy doing it that way. ![]() |

3.1 is currently still beta ... if you're not the adventurous type I'd recommend sticking with 3.0.5 for the time being. As far as that one website is concerned ... maybe it's broken (bad html), but for some reason IE7 is able to display it.

Wow, that's interesting! I agree with Pat that I'm surprised just HOW much Firefox has managed to grab by now.
That's a good thing though. ![]() |

^ Still, I don't want to view the Shakira ads.
![]() I know that you rely on those ads, but I honestly think that especially on this site the ads are a bit too aggressive and off topic. ![]() |

It's like any website out there which relies on advertising; personally, I just ignore them & give thanks they allow the site to continue

I think that any non profit website should simply try not to depend on advertising revenue ... today servers and network bandwidth are relatively cheap, maybe changing the ISP would help.

^ PA needs 3 servers as now: 1. MP3 Streaming + Mailing + Backups (source) 2. Web (site and forum) 3. Databases SQL dedicated, over 2GB of data files Because of the high demand we cannot go lesser than this setup. I've tried it in the past and the loading times of pages are very bad. For the MP3 we need a 'unlimited' and 'unmetered' 10 mbps dedicated server because of the legal rights of files hosted. For the WWW and SQL server the configuration requires Multi Cores, RAM loaded and RAID 5 (for reliability) servers. Try to help me find a cheap ISP with that setup , please. Or do you have recommendations about the setup ? I am listening... ![]() Edited by M@X - February 05 2009 at 11:21 |

I can recommend Hetzner, but of course it might be useless to you since it's located in Germany.
![]() I agree that it's probably a good idea to have the audio files on a separate server, I think that something like a 8 GB quad core server would be able to handle both web server and the database. I might be wrong of course, since I don't know how much traffic we're talking about. |

Are the banner ads really that bad anyways? They take up about 100 pixels at the top of the page. That's it.

What he meant to say is that he would never even think of using an ad block and loves the ads very much. |
