I only have the album 'Hero And Heroine' and I don't think Autumn or Round and Round is the best song of this record. I would vote for 'Hero And Heroine' (the song)

Well, I'll have to choose between the songs as listed above then... I'll go with Autumn!

Autumn was the first strawbs song I heard and I played the crap out of it. It was one of those " I gotta hear that again pieces ". If you want a great Strawbs anthology I recommend the UK release of "Halycon Days" everything's there except Autumn which you already have anyway.

I agree with Joren about Hero and Heroine! It's a great song and I think it's one of their best. Still, I voted for the beatiful Benedictus.

Oh my Gawd, Dude! Check out my "A Choice Selection of Strawbs" review.

An essential 70s prog act, still touring!

You must know their song "Part of the Union," no?

I'm also a big fan of the Strawbs. Although I should say my favourite song (and Dave Cousin's own favourite) is 'Blue Angel'. Ok, it's from his solo album, but it has been (badly) covered in teh Strawbs latest CD, so it should qualify.

I agree 'Autumn' and 'Hero and Heroine' are maybe superior to 'Round and Round', although I've voted for Ghosts, mainly because I my favourite Strawbs album

Great review although I prefer Halycon Days as an anthology. I first got into Strawbs from buying Classic Strawbs because I thought they were going to sound like Yes. I think compilations are a great way to get into a band you don't know. Round & Round is also one of my all-time faves.

SmileThanks for the compliment, Vibe! Strawbs are a prog act that I got into somewhat laterin my listening career, but soon grew to love.

Right on! "Round and Round" is an absolutely CRUCIAL 70s prog song! As with its dark theme, it cuts like a knife. Its sentiments (All is meaningless & futile -- may as well open a vein....) are not to be taken to heart, but can be cathartic in that singer/songwriter Cousins is more down than you could possibly be when blasting such a great tune!

"Blue Angel," like the lovely "Autumn," is another beauty. Great band!

Also check ot the simple and moving "Beat the Retreat" from DON'T SAY GOODBYE. Another lovely song!

My vote goes to the wonderful Benedictus, but all the Strawbs' songs are really favourite of mine!
