Zabriskie Point
The cinematography and music is brilliant of course, but as a whole I wasn't very impressed. Not much really happens and I guess that's kind of its point because the movie seems to be a bit of a dead-pan satire of the counterculture of the day but even as that it's not as good as it could have been. Maybe I was disappointed because I expected it to be as surrealistic as the director's previous movie Blow Up? Confused

Salo - Yep, THE Salo.  I have been wanting to see this for a few years now since its one of the "most controversial films".  I can see why.  It was pretty nasty. I didn't watch the whole thing, and fast forwarded through some of it too because it was kind of boring and I got the point after a few minutes. I guess part of the controversy lies in that some people say this is a gross but brilliant film while others just say its gross.  I just don't think it was very well done.

RockNRolla - The new Guy flick.  I thought it was pretty cool and up to standards.  Supposedly part of a trilogy, so I'm anxious for the next 2 if they ever get made.  Plenty of funny parts too.  7.5/10

Punishment Park (1971) - leftist propaganda movie, pretty brash and in your face but also very B & W, not very engaging 5/10

Mouchette (1967) - I liked this movie and I don't even know why, I think it was more symbolic in relation to the main character Mouchette, like the bird trapped in the wire at the beginning symbolized Mouchette trapped in her unloving life, the end with the rabbits being trapped in field with the barrage of hunters and its only escape is death symbolized Mouchette being trapped in her life of unfeeling and selfish adults and her only release was her suicide - she did die right? I could have it all wrong too, either way I'd like to see more Bresson films this was pretty neat! 7/10

Chopper (2000) - story of Marky Mark "Chopper" Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his autobiography while serving a jail sentence in prison. 6/10

The Frontrunners     Straight-forward documentary about a student body election at New York City's most prestigious high school.  Interesting if a little slow.

I have no idea what to make of A Clockwork Orange. It certainly was intense, and I can see why they had to cut some of it to make it into theaters, that was a lot of boobs. I can honestly say I have never seen a movie like that before, which is something.

You should see "Viva la Muerte!" by Fernando Arrabal or "Montana  Sacra" by Alejandro Jodorowski. "A Clockwork Orange" is tame compared to those movies.
As to the boobs: You are probably located in the USA. In Europe we have no problem with showing boobs (and more) in movies. Boobs would definitely not be a reason to cut a movie in Europe.

I take your point about this movie - saw it myself about a year ago & to be honest, it just bored me; struck me it was done specifically to shock (see also the laughable 'Hostel' ) but ended up being shallow & sub-standard - that's a couple of hours of my life I'll never get back

le deuxieme souffle - Another JP Melville for me. Not as great as Le Samourai or Le Cercle Rouge or Les Doulos, but still friggin awesome.
8/10

Yes, I've seen adult films before. ;-) I know that Europe is very free with their boobs compared to us, but I was also surprised that it wasn't particularly violent by modern standards in terms of graphic detail.

So by looking on Youtube, it turns out that all the audio desyncing and the repeated and skipped frames to make up for that was not a stylistic effect, but Netflix f**king up the streaming. I assumed it was because hey, it's a movie about a crazy dude and I didn't see any complaints about it on the Netflix page, but , yes, it is definately not supposed to be like that. Oh well. Now it seems like I have to see it the right way before I decide what I actually think of it since the major thing I noticed about it was A LIE.

North Shore - A terrible surfing movie.  Of course that was the point in watching it.  It was quite funny.  Most of the surfers in Hawaii were apparently Australian.  And there was a goofy cover of Funkytown.

Menace II Society - Hughes Brothers.  I really like Dead Presidents so this seemed like a natural choice.  It was well done.  Pretty heavy.  7/10

For a Few Dollars More (1965) - I haven't seen this since I was a kid, I'll be watching more of these spaghetti westerns in the near future, one thing that so good about these movies is they're straight forward macho-actions flicks with no fat what so ever, never a boring moment the momentum is always forward 8/10

Throne of Blood (1957) - wow, this was excellent, probably will be my favorite Kurosawa next to Seven Samurai, Washizu was a maddening character, a fabulous interpretation of Macbeth 9/10

Appaloosa (2008) - movie started off strong, a lot of little turns in the plot with a handful of mini-climaxes, it seemed a bit too long though and had some elements (like Everett's love interest) that were downright boring and didn't add anything to the story, wasn't entirely bad for a modern Western but the pacing was a bit herky-jerky and had a tendency to make me lose interest after a while, 6/10

Conspirators of Pleasure (1996) - I bought this movie since I'm planing to buy all Svankmajer's feature films, a surreal movie about some folks with "unorthodox" sexual fetishes...to say the least, you're hooked in from the beginning wondering what kind of bizarre schemes these people are up to, and when they carry out their plan its nothing but a big WTF? moment, nothing all that gross either just messed up sh*t you have to see for yourself, 8/10

Hausu (1977) - Wow, this has got to be one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen, if I had to rate it on originality alone I'd give it a 10 cause I've never seen anything quite like it, It's like an after-school special about group of Japanese school girls visiting a haunted house, its sort of Avant-Garde but also quirky and childish in a way, some of it even reminded me of shampoo commercial from the 70s...you just got to see and you'll know what I mean, I don't even know if I'd classify this as a horror or a kids movie or what, it definitely belongs in a genre of its own, they use a lot of super primitive and naive special effects which at once come off hooky but sometimes disturbing as well, I developed a crush on the girl who played "Kung Fu" as she's running around in her panties and a tank top through most of the movie...yum! I have one or two ideas of what this movie "might" be about if anyone else who's seen it might want to take a guess? I definitely need to buy this DVD 8/10...maybe?

Johnny English 4/10

Rowan Atkinson imitating James Bond/The Pink Panther. A couple of mildly amusing scenes, but Atkinson doesn't hold a candle to Sellers' portrayal of the archetypal idiot.

Iron Man 6/10

Hmmh, Iron Man was a relatively fun movie, but as to how does this differ from all the other superhero movies - I do not know. Entertaining and harmless, but will be forgotten the next day. Overhyped, imo.

Mar Adentro 8/10

I've seen a lot of movies dealing with similar themes (quadriplegia, euthanasia) lately, Mar Adentro is definitely among the best of them. It doesn't offer any easy answers, but definitely raises questions about life, moral, dignity and also pride - you know the drill. Javier Bardem is becoming one of my favorite actors. Recommended.

Idiocracy ....Mike Judge(Beavis and Butthead,King of the Hill)movie. 6.25/10

Much like Woody Allen's "Sleeper", a man and a woman are frozen in an experiment only to be awoken 500 years in the future to find that they are the two smartest people on the planet.

Not a bad movie. Some laughs. If you want to kill 85 minutes not a bad way to do so. I'd call it a guilty pleasure movie.

W. - Stone said this wasn't a biased film, just a story.  Well it was quite obviously biased, although I didn't mind.  It was quite funny.  cheap looking.  cheesey.  but the funny moments made it some what worthwhile.  5/10

I just recently watched "Hangover Square", the 1945 Drama based on the novel by Patrick Hamiliton. I chose this movie mainly because Bernard Herrmann wrote the music for it and because Patrick Hamilton wrote the novel that it's based on. I became interested in Hamilton's work after seeing a 1948 drama called "Rope" based on his novel called "Rope's End". The fact that it's a Hitchcock production was also a definite plus!
I did enjoy "Hangover Square" quite a bit, although I must say that I imagined George to look somewhat different. I imagined him to look meager, wasting away. But,Laired Cregar still did a wonderful job filling that role!

Jean-Luc Godard - Histoire(s) du Cinéma

I've only watched the first two parts so far, but . . . WOW! Shocked Cry Clap

I only wish I would recognize more of the references. The whole thing practically consists of quotations from movies, literature, music and paintings . . . at a very rapid pace. Wacko

CHARIOTS OF FIRE - I watched this because I read that it was Joe Biden's favorite movie. I guess I've seen more parodies of films like this and only finally having seen the original. This is a boring movie. I get that it's not just about running, but it's so boring. I didn't like it. 3/10

BAND OF BROTHERS - Not a movie, but still. This 10 part miniseries should be required watching for Americans, I think. It puts a lot of things into perspective, historically, politically, ethically, etc. It's very realistic and inspiring. 10
