Topic: AC/DC Box set Posted: February 01 2009 at 13:25 |
I just found the "Boombox" boxset on an auction site. It contains all their albums up to and including "Live 1992" in rare australian pressings. So that's: - High Voltage
- T.N.T
- Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
- Let There be Rock
- Powerage
- If you want Blood, you've got it!
- Highway to Hell
- Back in Black
- For Those about to Rock (We Salute You)
- Flick of the Switch
- Fly on the Wall
- Who Made Who
- Blow Up Your Video
- Razors Edge
- Live 1992
It's quite pricey, though. $118. Should i get it? It would take forever to find all those Australian CD's seperatly, and it would probably cost alot more too. I'm afraid i'll need to work and sell a bit to afford this (I CAN afford it now, but if i get a bit more money by working&selling stuff, it would go easier on my economy). Should i get it?

I would say no, but knowing how you are, a completionist and collector, then yes.

No. Spend the money on better stuff. Honest advice. ![Tongue Tongue](smileys/smiley17.gif) On the other hand, if they're really rare editions it might be worth getting... you'll enjoy them now and when you grow out of it in a couple years you'll be able to sell it for a lot more.

Because if i would buy all those albums as remasters in the store, it would cost about $145, which is what the bid level is on now. Such a shame... Those australian early CD-pressings are much cooler!

My friends young son - who I am trying to progify, gradually - got an AC/DC box set just recently. I'm not sure if it was this one, but it had a fair amount of live film footage on DVD too. Some real gems from the Bon Scott days.
Kinda nostalgic to watch, as I used to be a big AC/DC fan as a kid, before I worked out that they only really had four riffs, and they were all played against the same drum rhythim, at slightly varying tempos.
Bacially unless you are an obessive completionist I would reccoemend owning only two AC/DC albums; one from the Scott era, and one from the Johnson era. That will be their whole repetoire covered then.

I think that sums it up nicely Andy. You don't really need more than 2 AC/DC albums.

Dont get me wrong, they're great at what they do. They just keep doing it over and over again..
I saw them live a couple of times back in the 80's and they were an excellent fun live band.

Completely agree, though I would have 2 from each era: High Voltage and '74 Jailbreak from Scott's and Ballbreaker and Back in Black from Brian's.

^^ I'd have 'High Voltage' and the live album 'If you want blood..' from the Scott era, and 'For those about to rock' and 'Back in Black' from the Johnson era..
If I were to choose two from each...

The only thing I'd change there would be to exchange 'High Voltage' for 'Highway To Hell', otherwise, spot on

I wonder what albums you currently have. After Powerage, both the Australian & international versions were identical in songs included. So there is no need to get new ones, unless you want the Australian cover of Highway to Hell, or the American one.
