ahhh, Sunday afternoons, when there would be something half decent to watch..(nostalgic emoticon... M@x?) these days, between the Godawful Eastenders omnibus on one side and T4 schmulz on the other (let's not even talk about ITV..) it frankly offers very little reason for being alive...
btw: did I mention to anyone that, when we are forced to go digital here in 2011, I'm seriously thinking of ditching the thing in favour a fabulous Denon separates system with surround speakers??...
(lets just see whether I have the balls to do so, when the time arrives...)

It's easier than you think, I went TV free for 5 years when the kids were small. Keep in mind, they were in bed by 6- 7pm at that time, and I had no internet either......... you'll find it a breeze I am sure. I hate the blinkin thing, ok ok, I admit to watching the odd pile'o'poo, but to be honest if we weren't using it (well the dvd player at least) for work then I don't think we'd have one. I hate the fact that it commands centre stage in the lounge, and couldn't ever dream of having one in the bedroom......... horrible thought! By 2011 it'll be SO much worse too! |

Ah! The memories come flooding back. Sunday lunch is cooking away and Forces Family Favourites with Cliff Mitchelmore is on the wireless. 'This next piece of music is dedicated to Sergent Jim Smith currently serving in Malta...' |

God knows what the neighbours thought of me going round the car, trying all the doors, swearing madly, spraying deicer everywhere, then using the key... |

the "Clitheroe kid..??." by 'eck
(sound of distant shot......MF collapses clutching his heart......"HA! .....YOU MISSED"
the light service and frozen car locks aside, here's something for all you domestic pet people...
( To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door, at pet nose height )
Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing. The stairway is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run. I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm. For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob, or to get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not required.. The proper order is kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's bum. I cannot stress this enough! To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door: To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets: 1. They live here. You don't. 2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'niture. 3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.. 4. To you, they are an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they: 1. Eat less 2. Don't ask for money all the time 3. Are easier to train 4. Normally come when called 5. Never ask to drive the car 6. Don't hang out with substance abusing friends 7. Don't have to buy the latest fashions 8. Don't want to wear your clothes 9. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children! Edited by mystic fred - February 04 2009 at 01:14 |

an excellent point you raise there, Jim..
I sometimes think that if all the world were like me, the human race would die out in one generation... which kind of makes me feel selfish...
but then the mere thought of bringing up a child is one of sheer, abject horror, which makes me think that I'm somehow genetically deficient...
...but then again, maybe that's what 11 years of working in a Youth Hostel does to a chap...
