Ah, I thought it was going to be an album of new material. I guess it's live.

I'm definitely more interested in a live album than a set of new songs from these guys.

I read it as live recording(s) from last year's world tour. Besides another 'best' of RTF appeared last year.
I'm afraid Amazon.UK , other than providing the insert picture, is useless (and they are quoting £20 quid for the album - wot?)

But what if they were to do a studio album of new songs like that? Which also begs the question, could they pull it off? It seems to me many of the musicians in this subgenre who have been around for a while have lost the magic of the earlier days or maybe they just put out stuff that's just too difficult to top... Could Return To Forever return to forever? Edited by Slartibartfast - January 27 2009 at 06:49 |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

That's great news, one to add to my list. It would be great if they wrote some new stuff too, I reckon they could pull it off.

I'm really loving the Anthology album at the moment. The sound quality is GREAT. Looking forward to the DVD.

When is 'definitive' , not 'definitive'? So how does 'definitive' differ from an 'anthology'?
or one 'anthology' with another 'anthology' - surely not quite record label change??
Or a 'Best of'
Or a 'Collection'
And all that jazz

I have recently been listening to Al Di Meola and Return To Forever. I will most probbaly get the Montreux DVD when it comes out. Seems to be a great set list.

I'm not sure. All I can say is that the sound of Anthology is stellar and easily the best I've heard from this band. On top of the just-released Genesis box set, it's clear that remastering/remixing techniques have taken a huge stride forward in recent times. |

I suppose that should read, "It's difficult to imagine that the music could sound any better."

Unless you were in the middle of the band when they recorded it - but even then they would have done it probably instrument by instrument.

True. Still, I'm very impressed with these new techniques. It opens up the possibilities of all our favourite bands getting the treatment.
Given how poorly Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy, for example, used to sound, it does signal an exciting future. |
