That's one reason why I particularly hated pop music, because it made easily brain washed idiots think that if music wasn't melodic and didn't have melodic catchy hooks it must suck.
Some of the deepest and most genuine emotion can come from the most un melodic, atonal music, but people just don't give it a try because of what they were made to believe

I think Quella Vecchia Locanda is quite melodic, but would you call them pop? |
I'm not necessarily saying very melodic music automatically equals pop, I was saying that the way pop music is marketed, it makes people believe the only good music is melodic and music with melodic catchy hooks.
Hell, right now I'm listening to Swedish melodic death metal, which centers heavily around melody, but this is still hardly pop music.

Mmm... flashback to my clubbing years (errr... let's be honest, clubbing weeks). To some extent, club music (whatever the heck it is) is marketed for brainwashed idiots, yet , it's usually everything but melodic. The less melodic the music, the higher the clubbers are usually. What does it mean?

I see what you mean, but not everyone takes music that seriously, you have to accept that.

There will always be people who don't take it as seriously. I'm not aiming for a mass effect here, just elucidating that environmental changes would affect some of the population and an overall consensus.

Not very melodic? I always hear lots of melodies in that kind of music (not all of it, but in quite a fair bit of it), but of course, the core of it is around the 'catchy' rhythms I guess. Well, having never used any drugs much beyond marijuana myself, I can't say I've been as high as a clubber

Weird... I always thought I was the oddball in my family for exactly that, taking music so seriously, yet I ate at my parents' place last weekend and they had this argument over how loud my dad plays music when she's out of the house (shaking window loud) and about him being 65 with bad knees and rocking out to it.
I thought it was so great.
Not sure how much anyone can rock out to stuff like Dutch Swing College Band and Papa B'ues Viking Band, but anyway, at least I finally know I take after someone.

I never took music seriously at all, until maybe 2003, and even then it wasn't obsessive like it is now. 2005 was when it became very much part of me.

Last experience with clubbing, my Spaced (I LOVE THAT SHOW) DVD I got a year ago and that's the sort of music I had in mind. At least I don't find that melodic:
The club music really starts at 1:45.

I started taking music more seriously 4 years ago, and it made a bigger jump when I became a musician starting 3 years ago.

It's really overatted.
Last party I went to outside of Xmas and New Year (well, actually, I watched a Paul McCartney concert on TV with my family on new year) was for my nephew third birthday. The best part was decorating balloons.  These are the things that really matter.

I plan to never go clubbing, and I'm 20 years old and legally I've been able to go to clubs and drink, but it never appealed to me.
I've been to two parties this year though, both were fun, and 2008 New Years Eve was an absolute blast as well.

I celebrated New Years in my own way. Sitting here like I do every night, listening to music, and spending some time with my family. It was pleasant. I didn't even know the Super Bowl was this weekend until someone mentioned it today. I've never seen a second of that in my life.

Heh, if I don't at least get now and then, I start to feel weird and parties are a great way to get my whole social group together and to catch up anyway, so that's not a bad thing I think.
