It's official: worst drive home since I started driving.
Can't believe we sent out the kids in school bus (no belts in those, mind you, but they say it's safer this way) in that kind of sh*tty weather.

I need a lot of Classical, I'm severely lacking. All I have is a Messiaen double-CD (Simon Rattle conducting).

I know what you mean by bad weather. We've got about 6-7 inches of snow on the ground right now as well as about 1-2 inches of ice on the ground. They really haven't been able to start clearing the roads until today because the snow didn't stop until today.

We got about 4 inches so far, but no ice (no thank you, I've lived through the 1998 ice storm, don't need any more of that). Weather report says the wind is supposed to start blowing like mad.
Must be the same storm that came up here.

If I was starting a Clasical collection, I wouldn't start with Messiaen... 
given your tastes, I think Shostakovich would be right up your street...have a word with Riccy...but I've taken the liberty of suggesting one fabulous, mid priced recording you might enjoy... 
they don't come much more Avant than that...
