It's funny to see Rush on James's recently played list.

Nah, I've played a lot worse bands than Rush.

I wasn't thinking of them. Tool. Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Pure Reason Revolution. |

I came up with some bizarre vocals whilst driving the other day...

I was listening to PoS and Tool on Youtube and I was surprised at how awful it was. To be honest I don't even see why Tool is considered prog and not really stretched out alt-rock with pseudo-deep lyrics.
Then again, I don't think In Abstentia is prog either so what do I know... Edited by Henry Plainview - January 25 2009 at 19:00 |

^seriously.... Tool and PoS are some of the finest and most original bands in the whole prog metal genre if you ask me... in fact if I had to pick a top three those would be there with Agalloch.
Ever seen this? A piece of art in itself. |

Yeah, I've seen their videos, they are nice and nonsensically weird, but I don't see much that is redeeming about it in a prog sense. Or at all in my personal opinion but that doesn't mean nobody else can like them. I don't even care if people like Porcupine Tree, it is just completely f**king beyond me that Porcupine Tree are apparently the standard bearers of prog. Steve Wilson doesn't even think they're prog anymore! And I saw that Akerfelt vs Wilson trvia challenge, the man knows his prog!

Try listening to any of the last three albums as a whole... maybe you'll see it. As for PT my favorite era is the early trippy stuff, which was prog allright. later albums are proggy alt rock but who cares, it's all good music.
BTW, SW is a bit of an asshole(in a Fripp/Blackmore kinda way) so he's not entirely trustworthy Edited by The Miracle - January 25 2009 at 19:17 |

Steven Wilson has been photographed at a computer at Robert Fripp's house, working on some music programme (I think he's helping Fripp out)...
So is that not classed as prog? |

Oh, I like a lot of Tool.
I just think their last album was just a pointless exercise. I took them years to make and it was nothing special. I've seen bands release two albums in a year that are much better and more innovate than 10,000 Days. |

I've not listened to PoS since Scarsick... But Entropia is likely still my favourite. I still remember the awful last track on Remedy Lane too... I never mentioned PoS anyhow, Alex did. They weren't in that list. Edited by James - January 25 2009 at 19:20 |

Wow, Wikipedia has the worst Did You Know? ever... it's so obvious, I don't know why they bothered!
... that people have had to be taken to hospital due to drug overdoses at dance parties? Yeah and people have also died at dance parties due to drug overdoses too. Tell me something new, please! Edited by James - January 25 2009 at 19:25 |
