I'm quite angry about my country after reading something online... grrr!
Old news... like 60+ year old news but still... gosh. It makes me sad. |

Aye. I was reading about Witold Pilecki on Wikipedia. He should be a Polish hero of sorts. Why did us Brits not pay attention to him? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witold_Pilecki A little snippet (in reference to Auschwitz): The British authorities refused the Home Army air support for an operation to help the inmates escape. An air raid was considered too risky, and Home Army reports on Nazi atrocities at Auschwitz were deemed to be gross exaggerations (Pilecki wrote: "During the first 3 years, at Auschwitz there perished 2 million people; in the next 2 years—3 million"). The Home Army in turn decided that it didn't have enough force to storm the camp by itself. Addendum: and the post-war Communist Polish government are just as much to blame... Sixty years back. Dead news. We need to worry about what's going on now. |

Well of course. I know that. But it still makes me annoyed. Just think of all those people that could have been saved... Still, it's sort of the opposite problem right now... it's the Jews that are kind of guilty of a few things. But I won't go there. Edit: and why did you have to use Dead? That's rather insensitive. As far as I'm concerned, the Jews are only guilty of wanting to be left alone, but I'll save that for the appropriate thread. As for that bit of news, the Supreme Allied Command all heard reports about the atrocities being committed by the Nazis. So in essence, all the Allied commanders are to blame for not doing anything about it, not just the British. If I remember correctly, Eisenhower was the one who refused to let Allied bombers conduct raids around the concentration camps on the basis that it wouldn't do anything to speed up the end of the war. Although I can understand where Linus is coming from. |

David, Linus hasn't commented on it...
But yes, I knew that all Allies likely new stuff but just reading about it makes me a little annoyed. Oh and yes, I'm not having a go at the Jewish in relation to Gaza but both Hamas and Iran could have handled it all differently and more peacefully. It's just how things go. I'm certainly not anti-semitic, far from it. I'm just a pacifist. |

@James: Dead because it no longer matters, because it's gone, and because worrying about that will sort nothing out. Not sure whether it's an insensitive word in the context... maybe is, but then, it wasn't trying for a pun, so it's probably OKish. @Birdman: Well, the Jews are guilty of wanting to be left alone in a place where they have no right of any kind to be. I think they're in the right at the current moment (for the precise reason that what happened sixty years back shouldn't determine morality now), but I can understand the differing point of view, and it's not that simple. |

I know you didn't mean to say it that way. I was just a littlr short-fused. My apologies.
Old News would have sounded better. But no worries. All is good. And yes, what happened 60+ years ago has nothing really to do with the current situation. I wasn't linking them together. It's just sad that things have gone the way they have. I hate conflicts and wars and unnecessary death and disease and all that. Edited by James - January 25 2009 at 15:55 |

On a different note... I keep getting logged-out when I visit polls.
It's annoying. Sometimes it lets me write a reply and then logs me out when I try to send the message. It only seems to do it when it's a poll. Very odd. |

Oh and it only seems to do it in the Poll section.
The Bern vs. KC poll was fine. |

Yep and it doesn't do it every time.
Sometimes I go to the bottom a poll and there's no box to type in, so I think the thread's been shut... grrr! Ah well. |

Sometimes I wish Rock Bottom didn't exist.
Then Still Life would be my album of the '70s. |
