I don't care; you're entitled to your opinion. I wasn't getting upset.

I have not heard the Science Group.

He hasn't written most, but he has written some; you are correct.

"Blind Faith" is one of the ones he has written.

Don't have that song. It's not on the 4 DT albums I have.

You don't have 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence? Shocked

That's their best album along with SFAM.

Too many people overlook that.

Yeah, it's unfortunate.
I forgot how cool Bodokan is, hadn't watched that DVD in ages.

I really think I should start up another last.fm account so I can truly show people what I listen to. The only problem is it would be such a wide range of stuff everyone would call me a traitor.

Then accept it and don't sound as if you are upset. Wink

Seriously, Cutler on drums.  Denio on vocals and sax.  Frith on guitar.  Tickmayer on keyboards.  Oh and Bob Drake is on it too.

James Labrie > Peter Hammill

Easily.

No, Labrie sounds like a girl and isn't very good.  Way overrated.

Replace Labrie with Hammill and that's how I feel. Wink

I can understand what Hammill sings.

Labrie I cannot.  He cannot annunciate!

Plus he sounds like a girl and doesn't compose his own songs.

Hammill infinity better.

Hammill sings amazingly well.
Hammill composes brilliantly.
Hammill plays keyboard/piano.
Hammill plays guitar.

Labrie sounds like a strangled cat.
Labrie cannot annunciate properly.
The band that plays with him are pretentious.
Labrie does not play any instruments and doesn't compose (and if he does, they're rubbish).

Labrie is the archetype of the generic singer with a lot of range and basic voice. When he tries to do particularly interesting things, it usually sounds silly, any emotion he create sounds recycled, and he's unmistakeably cheesy. He's a fairly good singer, and I'm not as against him as many, but he's just never more than that.

Hammill is one of about five genuine breakthrough singers. He creates complex emotions, shades of emotion and ideas with his voice. What he does isn't always obvious on the first listen, which is a plus. His uses of harmonies are unique and challenging. When he does sing clean vocals, it's without exception amazing (just take the live version of (No More) The Submariner, or This Side Of The Looking Glass or Lost).

Sorry, there is just no comparison. This is like putting Steven Wilson against Peter Gabriel. Unoffensive vocalist vs. great vocal artist.

--
Not to mention, Hammill's compositions are basically the cleverest in terms of creating a relationship between the music and the ideas behind the lyrics.

Yeah I was tempted to get it but I decided I'd leave that for another time. When I really want to listen to Dream Theater I'll get it.

All subjectivity, really, because I feel as strongly about Labrie as you do Hammill and about Hammill as you do Labrie. Hammill comes off as extremely silly and childish to me, and that's when he annoys me. The other half of the time he's mediocre.

Hammill is never mediocre.

I think someone has swapped your VdGG albums for William Hung's.

Definitely do that. It'll be worth it, especially for 1 disc, let alone receiving both of them.
