Some say that it was the most watched program in Television history. It was history. Were you a part of it?

I caught a little of it on a live webcast during lunch at work. Although I'm a supporter both my wife and I were suffering from coverage fatigue. I heard Roberts screwed up one of his lines.

I couldn't watch the whole thing, but I did catch quite a bit of it on the radio (while I was driving), and some on TV -- saw Obama on TV giving his inaugural address. I caught it more of it at night over news recaps. I would have liked to see more so that I knew how diverse the speakers were at the ceremony. I heard a pastor, Rick Warren, but was wondering if there were speeches by people representing many faiths (and lack of faiths) since an emphasis of his camp has been about building bridges between peoples and respecting diversity. I should google.
I wonder what George W. Bush thought of the event and how he was feeling during it? |

At school, there were plenty of TVs everywhere showing it (even in the bar) so I didn't have the choice. It was interesting though.

Apparently, one of the high school at my school board stopped classes earlier so that people could watch it from the lounge .
Personnally didn't watch it, was at work. I thought his speech after the election was great and I'm still a little curious to hear the one he did, but now the momentum's gone, so I most likely won't even bother. Everything else, the analysts, the comments, the music, I'm happy to have avoided.

So this is how democracy works now in the Obama age? What substance the man has is rooted in socialism and as a man who believes in personal liberty, a free market, and a limited central government I do hope he fails with his plans for the country. Just because I don't wish my country to go down the path of socialism doesn't mean that I "hate America", in fact, it means I'd rather preserve it. I accept Obama as my President but that doesn't mean I have to accept his policies, or that anyone does. If you want to call people childish names and demand they "shut up" in response to any criticism that's fine, really, because maybe it tells us so much about who now runs this country. How about this: I hope he succeeds in finding conservatism because I know that in liberalism the country will fail. Can't wait for my new nickname.

Wow, radio, how quaint. So do you think he won the inaugural better on radio than on TV? Edited by Slartibartfast - January 21 2009 at 19:11 |

Well those of us who have disagreed with the policies of the Bush administration have been called unpatriotic and traitors. Obama was a called a socialist when he was running and a guy who pals around with terrorists. Then the same people said he only won because he was running a center-right campaign. All the economic problems were Clinton's fault and then before Obama even took office it became an Obama recession. I was being flippant when I said "sit down and shut up". It was not directed at you. It was most certainly directed at any of the right wing blowhards that are hoping for the Obama administration to fail. I look forward to spirited and polite political discussions with you over the next eight years of the Obama presidency, if choose to engage in such. Wait a second, wasn't this supposed to be about television? Uh, never mind. By the way, links are active so all are free to read it and make up your own mind. I do try and be a little fair and balanced. Edited by Slartibartfast - January 21 2009 at 19:22 |

Obama can't be socialist since true socialism is dead. Besides the candidates must have similar ideas between them. If they show a true left winged side , the average american won't vote for them. I think Obama will be more of the same |

^ the key word there is show
Anyone who tried to bring up his true nature was buried by the media. All Joe the Plumber did was ask him a question and the next day his life was being taken apart piece by piece.
and perhaps an Obama discussion thread should be opened specifically for debating his acts as President and if we are lucky it'll be free of emotional hero worship and childish name calling
here we go:
