Just heard this band on SNL, and am looking forward to getting their CD. They have a wonderfully mellow folk sound. Anyone else catch their performance?

I didn't catch them on SNL but would say that their album is rather spectacular. One of the best of last year.

I have their album, and while it is enjoyable, I can't help but thinking it sounds like a poor man's CSN&Y.

I'd choose poor over arogant in this case.

I didn't see them performing, but I've heard the album.
To be honest, after all the hype it received, I expected something more. I thought the album was extremely pleasant, but in the long run, it just didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

Well, it is their first album. And their live performance was awesome.

I like them a lot. I don't think they are a poor version of anything else. Buy the vinyl version. A beautiful double album with their great debut EP
included + a free link to download both albums in mp3 version.

I heard them on SNL last night and was impressed. First time in ages that I've heard music I liked on that show. I also first thought of CSN&Y when listening to it, but not a poor version of their music. Good vocal work and music, and with other influences too.
Incidentally, I've been noticing on SNL that it seems that most bands have three guitars in their bands. In this case a lead electric, bass guitar, and acoustic (plus drums and keys), and one recently with four guitars which seemed really useless as I couldn't discern the harmonics/ individual parts (more a muddy wall of guitar sound). I liked the FF line-up.

I like them, love the album. Some beautiful melodies on it, I thought.
I hope they keep on coming out with good stuff.

One of my favorites from last year. I didn't know they were on or I would have watched for sure. The CSN comparisons always spring up, but to me they aren't that similar. FF have a much more alt-pop direction - the arrangements only pretend to be folky when they're really quite simple (but still creative). The harmonies are much more dense as well (they experiment with more than the three-part thing). The artwork on the self-titled is great ("Netherlandish Proverbs" by Breugal).

What I've heard sounds OK but I think the band Midlake does their whole schtick a bit better. Their album "Trials of Van Occupanther" is really nice stuff.

Hmm, just saw their performance and I have to say they sound much better live than on the album. Where's the song "Mykonos" from? It easily tops every song of their self-titled...
And please don't get me wrong, I DO like them, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten their album - it certainly is a lot better than much of the drivel being pushed these days.

Their EP called "Sun Giant" released just before the album.

The immense hype has kept me from listening to them. I probably wouldn't like it if I tried, anyway.

I completely missed out the hype, but the SNL appearance intrigued me.
