I have never heard Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull. Compared to Aqualung,Thick as a Brick or Warchild which are the 3 Tull albums I like the best how does it stand up
On par with Aqualung, slightly worse than Thick as a Brick, and far, far better than Warchild. Heavy Horses is one of the best folk rock albums I know.

I'm one of the last people to ask about Jethro Tull. I'm kind of funny with Jethro Tull in that I am more of a "Hits" guys with them. I know how much most proggers hate compilation albums, but the Original Masters CD from Jethro Tull was my first from them and it is still my favorite.
I really need to listen to Thick As A Brick again. I listened to it a few times when I first got it many years ago, and I was only mildly impressed. I can't remember the last time that I listened to it. Which is one reason I am amazed that it was the top rated album here on PA for so long. I'm curious to see how much my tastes have changed in recent years now that the majority of what I listen to is prog rock.
Anyhow, now that I have added my disclaimer, I would say that Heavy Horses is pretty good. There are no hits on it, so that would appeal to many proggers. Of the 4 mentioned albums, I rate Aqualung highest, War Child next, Heavy Horses next, and then Thick As A Brick.

BTW, have you heard the Baku Llama album of which I am currently listening. This is my second listen to it. I enjoyed my first listen, but I am really enjoying this second listen. Good stuff. If you haven't heard this yet, you should really check it out. The piano playing is really good.

It sounded like Jethro Tull. They have a pretty distinct sound with Ian Anderson's voice and flute. To my ears there is a bit of a sameness to their music. Not meant as an insult, as it is probably my lack of familiarity more than anything else that makes me feel that way. I suppose that in a way it applies to all bands until you really get to know their music and can distinguish their various songs second naturely. A skill that comes more naturally to others than it does to me.
