having spend Christmas with my family I was going through my father's records to put some Christmas Tree music on....among the records I used to hate as a teenager were these easy listening big band arrangemnts à la 20 party greats played by James Last, which I must admit I quite like now (BTW a bigger part of the musicians from Lucifer's Friend were in the touring band of James Last)
Now as it was Christmas I pulled out some Let's do the classics records and found the first of Ekseption and Walter Murphy's : A Fifht of Beethoven.....and having played both records I realized that both had in common B.'s 5th and the sabre dance from Kachathourian....and I was positively surprised by the W. Murphy record, it has a nice funky 70's groove with good keyboard work and horn arrangements, my favourite track is a Chopin cover with a moody hammond sound.....
