LOL I wrote tonnes of crappy teenage poetry back in highschool and my girlfriend still has the book of it... I want to burn it but she won't let me - it's too cute she says. Wants me to write more.

I'm back, by the way.

I tried to burn the stories I worte in high school (they SERIOUSLY suck LOL), but I just can't. I still got a huge pile of them under my bed

Burning these things are harder than they seem. Again, maybe a girl thing.

I wonder why people still do that then? Cheese sells?

Because most people are weird. Tongue

I think when you get any half-decent writer, it's not that enormously cliché. Besides, it's emotion, if you write to describe other emotions, or ideas, it only seems natural to do the same for love.

I guess so. Cohen has a lot of love song that kill me (in a good way, and he's slightly beyond "hald decent")

And, not sure if it's a girl thing, but there are a couple of singers out there that could sing telephone book and still make it sound like a very thoughtful romantic love song (Stuart A. Staples in particular), so maybe some people listen more to the vocals than to the lyrics sometimes

Mhm. I sort of get what you mean. At least, just about any song sung by Peter Hammill is deeply touching to me (I love the lyrics too, though, so...), and some singers seem to have a knack for making ideas that I don't like on paper work (Greg Lake, Robert Wyatt and Richard Sinclair in particular).

I'm always sort of doubtful (as a bloke) as to whether I have any real understanding of love poems or whether I'm just sympathising with the other guy's situation.

Here's the next one and this is even more pH-like:

(May) Flyby Tours - Borodinosaur a.k.a. Sorry I borrowed a few of your ideas pH

It doesn't matter if I live... or die...
Why?
I... fall into the maelstrom,
thunder cracking on my back
down to earth I (may) fall, but
the (may) fly, flies itself to sleep,
making my time with him a calamity.

Of course, time disuades me,
from ever being what I want to be.
The (may) fly isn't a (may) bee,
time forces him into many mannerisms,
a ponderer, a wanderer, an organiser -
of the Anti-Anteater Association.
But at least he tries...
Unlike me.

I used to be a positive soul,
waiting out time for miracles,
but the materials required?
Well they were out of Stock,
Aitken and Waterman songs.
I should be so lucky...

Always popular, but never brilliant.

I specifically asked for pot...ash,
so I could grow some Amaryllis -
I got some dead stoners ground up bones.
Insinerated?, insinuated more like.

It's typical, mysunderstandyng.
I've been disqualified from the ratrace.

Snow bites my top lip, as I fall ever deeper,
time may start to pass backwards soon...
The thrill of the hunt - my piercing spear,
too elaborate to fly straight, it hits...
me in the face, time continuum.

No wonder the Woolly Mammoths died,
they hadn't bargained on my spear - useless!

I... want... to... spend time with the enemy,
working out their lies and deceipt.
To see why they have all the luck.

If I open this door, will I live?
Or will I die?  If I don't open it...
Well, what of it?

Stalemate - a life of content.

I can do that, yes.

But I open the door anyhow...
to find, another door.

A hear field guns, is it 1812?
I have travelled backwards in time?

I feel younger, but I look old.
Fitter and lithe, but with a stick...
I poke myself.

Then I see the (may) fly, he's awoken,
as bashful as ever - buzzing around my head,
dogfighting like Manfred versus Albert.

He settles on my right earlobe.

"Maybe I'll (may)be your life... away?"
He says.

In the confines of this...
What is this place?

I hear Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture
...the door opens.

Welcome to Paranoia, please enter.

Geck0 - 1 February 2006.

Means she's not over you, I suspect. You don't keep stuff from your exes like that otherwise. Too weird.

I like that one better. Very up my alley lyrically. Totally picture Nick Cave doing quite a few parts of it (although he's not Hammil, but I mean it as a compliment)

That's my preferred writing style.  Taking the English language to different places and experimenting with new and old words.

While we're on this poetry kick:

Anthony and Cleopatra, Across the Void

Eyes now blind no stranger view

And throw their light in haunting arcs

Which sails catch, gleaming through the dark

And we catch too, catch we two

Through the dark, I glimpse your reddened lips and sublime form,

Kneel down to kiss your feet and leave a trace of my love there,

I'd love to feel you by my side, when comes the saffron dawn,

Stand tall to kiss your lips and run my fingers through your hair

I love you, as you face me, your back towards the sea,

Frightened, as, behind you, the waters too swiftly rise,

I grip your hand with longing, pull your body close to me

To shelter from the rising waves and drown within your eyes

Dark and swirling waters leave,

And take love to the promised land

A downcast pair on vibrant sands

Relinquish hands and quietly grieve

---

(One of my best pieces, I think, or at least a big development from what came before it, I've written a couple of modernist and shorter pieces that I think are perhaps better... there's still one line I really want to work out)

James, so while I didn't like Crackow Klezmer Band a whole lot, it was interesting. It was like walking through a dark Balkan forest with the sound of gunfire in the distance. I think I am still ODed on music from all my listening during endless hours of working/not working on music stuff, so I'll listen to them again later.

I remember this from before, Rob and yes, I think we agreed at the time that one line could perhaps be worked-on.

Line 2 of paragraph 2, if I remember correctly.

However it's excellent and much better (and different) to anything I have written.  I've not written a poem in maybe 2 years... I just have no ideas left in me.

CKB are all love and no hate. Big smile

They'll grow on you.  That album is a 5/5 album for me and one of my favourite non-prog albums ever. Big smile

Don't forget to unscrew the U-Bend from the basin and remove the cistern though.

The first half of that line is okay, no?

Wait, these lovers have jumped into the sea right?

Or am I reading this completely wrong? If they are falling, well, yes then, I suppose the line doesn't fit in too neatly.
