Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction?

Found out to my surprise pumpkins have a lot to do with prog, recently on tour the band has a 30 minute epic called Gossimar that they have been performing, and their albums tend to either have the odd ten minute piece our at least strong prog elements; sophisticated arrangements, melletron, experimentationand symphonic structures that make for shorter songs in the prog vein. Lately many of the audience in their shows have been baffled by the progginess of the band, and in many of their concerts about half of them have left.
If no-one here agrees with me,  at least the pumpkins drummer Billy Chamberlain has created a band called the billy chamberlain complex and released one album -a jazz fusion album.
Also Corgans single album band Zwan, has a 15 minute plus epic on it.
If the Smashing Pumpkins were not prog in the 90s, they certainly are now.

Secondly Janes Addiction believe it or not, were rooted in prog not punk they have a clocking at around 10 minutes symphonic structured songs on their album reminiscent of yes.

I think both Pumkins and Addiction would fit nicely in  Crossover prog.  Billy Chamberlainds complex in fusion, and Zwan in Crossover.
Prog did not die, they just started calling it alternative/punk.

By the way Corgan doesn't like punk, and is an ardent rush fan, also likes ELP, Uriah Heep, Church and all manner of classic rock bands. Jimmy Chamberlain, likes neil peart's, bill bruford's and phil collin's drumming

They were thinking for a while there of creating a 40/45 minute instrumental song, but chankged their minds, and in their concerts they constantly cover songs by such bands as Rush, Uriah Heep, and Billy is known to burst out the line"...welcome back my friends to the show that never ends!"
This guy is one of us.
Ithink the pumpkins embody both sides of prog rock, the retro symph style coupled with modern innovation and experimentation.

Even I am surprised of my non-total opposition to this suggestion...

won't promise anything... but a fair eval hahah...I'll take it to the Xover team. It will take all 3 team members accepting, due to being 'controversial' to some.  Personally I haven't heard much of their stuff, but I'll check them out and if the music fits.. they'll get my vote.. if not.. they won't hahah. 

Well, I guess I should have listened to them when I was a teenager. As I only know the singles, I thought the Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction were rather, let's say, "arty alternative rock". 

I recognized the prog element in Jane's Addiction when Ritual de lo Habitual came out - Three Days and Then She Did are nothing, if not prog epics. Kettle and Ted Just Admit It are pretty proggy as well.

I just think that at that time, in the late 80's, early 90's, the new prog scene was more focused on retro prog, so it was missed - but these days more prog fans expect new prog to sound new - I bet if Ritual were released today, it would easily qualify as a prog release...

Yes yes yes!!! Smashing Pumpkins should definitely be in PA. I was a big fan of them back in the 90's. When i discovered prog around 2003, i stopped listening to them. These past few days i've been dusting off all my SP cd and realized that with all the tempo shifts, mood changes, experimentations, and the loose concept apparent on most of their albums, how can they not be prog?
