It's the second in the Radio Gnome Trilogy. It's worth a listen if you're interested in hearing the space rock side of the band and if you've heard everything else. I've only listened to it twice but I prefer "You". "Angel's Egg" seems more like a mish mash of ideas and I don't really think it flows consistently together. Two of the shorter tracks, "Castle in the Clouds" and "Inner Temple" are my favorites on the album but they sound like ideas that weren't finished and had the potential to be excellent songs. Check it out if you're interested. Edited by Jozef - January 02 2009 at 13:48 |

What a GREAT disc!
Thanks to Danbo for the intro to this fine American outfit -- current smart, jazzy, varied prog. American Canterbury?
Very cool, in any case!

He still drops in occasionally, but way too infrequently, especially for one who became a real friend to so many here. (I have spoken to him on the phone, and myself, him amd Jim almost hooked up in Newfoundland a couple of summers ago... . One day, I hope!)
Good ol' Dan introduced so many here to so much fine music (not just prog -- the man also has a taste for killer blues), plus he has a great sense of humour. A fine generous gent and good friend all around!
And yes, Anchor Drops is one of the best latter-day prog albums I've yet heard.

Thanks for that tip, RF4 -- I will check out that free live stuff! I'll bet they're very good live!
And when the post-Christmas, credit card blues budget permits, I will order some more Umphrey's CDs. Any recommendations for my next one?

I don't think you can go wrong with any of their work. I think for the next one you might want to go with Safety In Numbers. That one is really good too. I'm not sure what your take is on Huey Lewis, but he makes a guest appearance playing harmonica on 2 songs and singing on one of those. The first CD on the Bottom Half is really good too, but the 2nd CD is just outtakes, demos, etc...
I have also heard Local Band Does O.K. and really it is just as good as the other 3 CDs that I have heard from them.
Since you like Anchor Drops, I really think that you will enjoy their other albums also.

Try singing the screaming part of "Child in Time", the end of "Strange Kind of Woman", or "Yeeeeeeaaaah Yeeeeeaaaaaah Yeeeeaaaah, Space Truckin'... Yeeeeah Yeeeeeaaaah Yeeeeeaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!" next! |
