That is true.

Meh, I'm not usually big on TV. But CNN is usually always on in my room, whether it's muted or not, or if I'm asleep or not. I just like to check up on the news now and then.

Meh.  I think I'm going to go ring in the new year by giving the bedsprings of a bed that's not mine a heavy workout.  Wink

Hope 2009 is better than 2008.  Good night.

Forget it I'm going to bed. Happy New Year SR.

What a load of garbage.
You're not gonna get in because you have clinical depression? WTF is that?
Because depressed people sometimes do crazy things? Like shoot themselves and/or others? Or refuse to get out of bed for tommorow's mission? There is no room for unpredictability in the military.

While it is unfortunate that there is so much societal stigma surrounding mental illness vs physical illness, you don't have to worry about giving a gun to someone with a broken leg.

That's understandable.

I don't like to usually watch TV news though because the bias has pissed me off too many times.

I understand the aspect of depression on one's behavior.
I know this from first hand experience.
But I think it would be more reasonable to perhaps give them counselling if they are actually depressed to the extent it will affect their behavior. And well, not all jobs in the defence force are fighting on the front line.
Is it reasonable to say to someone who wants a job in the Defence Force's band? For example "Sorry, you're too depressed to play the horns in the band"?
Fair enough, don't give 'em a gun, but geezus, I'm pretty sure a depressed person has enough functionality, especially given treatment, to do a whole range of tasks.

Are we talking about not hiring people, or kicking them out? Counselling and stuff is good too, and you're right, I guess barring them from supply work is extreme. But with the military, better safe than sorry, I suppose...

I would argue that their stupidity, incompetence, and sensationalism to get ratings is a Rorschach blot upon which people view bias, because I know a lot of Democrats who think the media is biased to the right (and not just Fox). But that argument never seems to get far with people.

Well you have to take into account what you are watching. I am right-wing, which is why my news of choice is Fox News when I'm looking for something besides background noise. Tune in to MSNBC and get your "Obama is God" fill if you so wish.

Just a little tidbit for those who think the media leans to the right, the New York Times ran negative ads in a 3 to 1 favor towards McCain over Obama.

If I had about 5 million bucks, if I were some top shelf CEO, I might be right wing.
But until then, I'm some working class suburban bum with a dad working as a maintenance electrician, so I'm left lol.

I don't think the media leans towards the right, although there is an argument to be made for the fact that most network owners are right wing...But anyway, I fail to see how the advertising in the NYT has anything to do with the content of the NYT. The echo chambers everywhere make me angry, but I was reading something the other day that showed people don't actually want to know about things that challenge their established viewpoints, so it's inevitable I guess.

I'm just honestly sick of the BAAAAAAAAAW ELITIST JOURNALISTS victim card the Republicans keep pulling, and I've only been paying attention for 2 elections. And then they wonder why Katie Couric was so MEAN to poor Sarah Palin.

The left thinks people should be inflexibly on their side if they are under a certain income, and you should be on their side if you're making more because otherwise you're kind of a bad person. The right thinks people should inflexibly be on their side if they have certain moral viewpoints, and you should be on their side because otherwise you're kind of a bad person.

At least that's how it is in the US, and it's infuriating.

I was slightly simplifying my reasons for being left.
Just a bit.
Just a tiny bit.
Okay, the fact my dad has his particularly job probably doesn't have much at all to do with me being on the left.
