Interesting list. I'm a Watershed fanboy, and though I agree, I'm surprised. Even among metal albums I expected Cynic to rate higher. Didn't see Dark Suns even in the top 100.

I'm actually hopeful for 2009. Devin Townsend - Ki is my most anticipated.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Yeah, same here. There were a few that I thought I would enjoy a good bit but they let me down, and then there just weren't enough releases that have that "staying presence" of a great album, IMO.

How do you guys find time to listen to 100 albums in one year??  It's amazing.

Excellent work RicoClapClapClap

I'm glad to see three of my choices are in the top fifteen.

I knew of course that ''Black Widow'' had no chance but at least it got a mention. I hope that '09 will sound better than '08 which was not the greatest musical year of all to be honest.

Take care my prog friends.

Daniel.

Yeah, good question! This poll might be fixed! LOL

Ok...

IM removed, at first I fixed the typo, but since it's just a compilation, I've taken it out of the top entirely.

" I just remembered that 2009's gonna be a worthless year for making a top, because Porcupine Tree will come up with something new, and the album will be automatically #1."

As if the same weren't true for Opeth in 2008.  it was decided the day the release was announced, truly sad.

#1 & 6-10 are unlistenable.  Dead
#2 I haven't heard but am curious about.  Smile
#4, & 5 are decent, solid 4 star stuff. ClapClap
Only The Tangent would have made my top ten for the year.StarStarStarStarStar

We migfht as well just change the name to Prog Metal Archives and get it over with. Confused Ouch

Wouldn't know about that. I was personally surprised to see different Collaborators, with different tastes, acknowledging Opeth. Cynic & Meshuggah, on the other hand, were mostly chosen by Metal fans & team members.

About my remark, don't forget that I added an emoticon at the end of the phrase. Sure, it will surely happen the way I predicted it, but I still said it out of humor. LOL

Edit: and what's wrong with Prog Metal albums?

I believe it was The T who really didn't want to see Opeth at the top.

Who cares if metal is at the top, it's where prog is these days.

Nah, prog is a smorgasbord of many genres, not just metal.

In my mind, prog is more about the avant side of things, rather than Metal.  However because of the nature of the avant-prog scene and the fact many people think it's something it's not, then the more popular prog-metal albums will get the votes.

I was surprised Opeth won though.

Kayo Dot and Mars Volta aren't metal...And they're only unlistenable if you have boring taste. :P

If Opeth were as foregone as Porcupine Tree, then why has everyone else been surprised? It got trashed by Certified, T, and p0mt3, and most of the other collabs who reviewed it gave it mediocre reviews.

Unless the new PT is something very different from what I'm expecting, I will be very happy if it doesn't win.
if you own a sodastream i hate you

I gave Opeth a "blah" review I thrashed Kayo Dot

I kind of hope PT doesn't win, but they keep making very good records. Although Doomsday Afternoon should have won over FOABP in '07 imo

Great work Rico and applause for all the Collabs.  I was thrilled to see David do well in the sea of Goliaths, and the kids in BDM really, really deserved the nod.  They're such nice people and they made a great freakin' record.

For Rico and for BDM ClapClap

Opeth is my favorite band and Watershed is really fantastic but I don't think it was my favorite album this year. Still congrats to them! I really, really loved the album when it first came out but it doesn't have much play back value TBH. Also I think it's pretty disjointed and doesn't  flow well as an album. I'll find myself only listening to Burden, or only listening to The Lotus Eater, etc. There are some great songs but when you put them together it doesn't really work.
