I just thought I would pop in here and wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy new year.  Let's hope we all continue on being prog and grumpy all at the same time.

Lay off the sprouts?

What a suggestion...

I would never be so cruel as to make such a taunt Jared - there is an element of tempting fate, after all...

Happy days to all - from underneath a blanket of fog and clouds here. Ah well, I may use the gray times to review some albums that have been waiting for that a while. Starting with Sonar's Celluloid and If's Morpho Nestira.

To self: Don't forget to post something on Altona - to back up Jared's review.

^^ no, I know you wouldn't, Jim...Smile

I guess I'm having a bit of gentle fun at Alan's expense, partly because my own future is rather precarious at the moment...Ouch.  I'm sure you'll appreciate why I couldn't really go into things on a public forum, but when you live and work in a building which your employer doesn't even own, and you would have absolutely nowhere to go if you were 'evicted', then the issues tend to concentrate the mind somewhat...Ermm

that said, I would just like to take this opportunity of thanking you all for your friendship in the Shed during 2008, and I wish each and every one of you happiness, and if not 'prosperity' then at least security (of the financial variety rather than the 'social' kind...Embarrassed) during what could be a turbulent and difficult 2009, for many of us...Disapprove

Merry Progmas, fellow shedders, and a happy new year!

Don't worry too much about Jim with the regular sprouts - I've done a batch of sprouts with chestnuts that would be far more catastrophic if he got his hands on them. I've concealed them in a container labeled Theakston Old Peculier - he'll never find them there!

whereas, if it had been labelled 'Methylated Spirits', you'd have had no chance...Embarrassed

We detest sprouts, but recognise them as a necessary evil of the festive platter - the woman in the grocer's was not too impressed this morning when I bought 6 of the smallest sprouts I could find - total value 10p.

What?

Sprouts - Not just for Christmas you know.

An excellent often under-rated vegetable. Just don't over cook them. Mmmmmmm.

Merry Christmas one and all.

...never mind about sprouts - what about  The Mystery of the Disappearing Christmas Trees..? Confused

last year you couldn't move for these things, they were stacked everywhere - the stations, grocers and garden centres.
this year on wednesday i visited my usual supplier to find only two £40 giants left!  last year there were many to choose from, and at half price.    so a trip to Homebase through the Christmas eve traffic turned out to be another wasted journey....none left!   the sort of storyline used in many Christmas stories...i.e. no turkey, no tree, no presents.

i then remembered my old Woolies artificial 6 footer consigned to the loft and brought that down - and all the bits were there, and i even found two sets of Christmas tree lights from a recent   "can i have them back now please"   haul from my ex-spouse, so Christmas is saved!  Big smile

just one more family gathering and  one more "won't you have some more food...dig in!" session to go...Dead

..then    p e a c e...  Approve

Mystic "two sprouts thankyou...i don't really like them"  Fred

Indeed. Try this some time: clean them, cut them in halves (unless you can get the best kind, the really small ones) and stir fry them with a bit of soybean sprouts (taugé in Dutch) and some soy sauce.

I've been trying to get my local Indian to do a turkey and sprouts garlic chilli balti for this Sunday.  I'm sure that if eaten alongside a large portion of saag aloo the health benefits would be well worth it.
