We've had profit sharing for years as well. Next year it's going to be loss-sharing.

which will be rather similar to Alan, after his 'Redundancy averting, agreed three day week pay cut negotiation meeting' in January....

Absolutely unbelievable. I simply can't understand how any rational person thinks they can engage in text messaging whilst driving, when most can't even hold a conversation on a phone without being affected. Over here many states and municipalities are quickly passing laws making it illegal to text while driving, and some even ban cellphone use unless you have a headset or other "hands-free" device. |

It has been said that it is the last refuge of the permanently bemused and that even the most bewildered can call it home... all we know is it's called THE SHED.

I can't understand why even hands free are acceptable. People are incapable of concentrating on their driving and having a conversation at the same time. Still the statistics say that women are better drivers than men. What a load of boks - but that may have something to do with the fact that this morning whilst on my bike I was cut up by a woman driver.

I knew there was a reason why I should be hanging round in here more often.

I always thought the Shed was the place your father took ya to correct your behavior... at least it used to be.
So, belt, paddle or hand?

I'm with Alan on that one, especially where the 'R' word is concerned; difficult year ahead, I fear... |

Is having a conversation via a hands free kit really more distracting than having a couple of children in the back seat? |

In a way, it is, Jim. I have both (a car kit and a couple of kids). Kids you can ignore for a while, and focus on traffic in the mean time. With a phone call, especially a business or work related one, this is impossible. I always try to postpone the phone calls that really require my full attention until I get home. In contrast, when I have to drive for a couple of hours, I often call someone from my network to catch up - then it's more like talking to your passengers, except that the passenger is not physically present.

Tis true. People you may chat to in the car can pick up your body language and will shut up at a junction or dangerous part of the road. You are also more relaxed when chatting to them. A phone conversation takes up more thought and uses more of your brain and definitely detracts from your driving ability.

When I hear Debs or Alex saying "look at that" or "Did you see that?" while I'm driving, my response is always the same "No, I'm watching this idiot infront of me... describe it to me"

When my wife says "we should have turned right at that turning we just went past", I find it hard to resist the temptation to turn round and look.

But what if said kiddiwinks are the jump, jump, jump, bounce, bounce, bounce, yell, yell, yell variety? Now that must be more distracting...
Of course, one of the most distracting things must be listening to 'The Now Show', 'the News Quiz' or re-runs of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'; now that is distracting |
