Hi Damo, i just read your review, bravo!

Let me put it here:

TAPROBAN — Ogni Pensiero Vola
Review by DamoXt7942 (DamoX)

3 stars Well...how should I say 'bout them...neo-Italian prog? I can't decide it's not appropriate...

At first, the picture of the sleeve is weird. To tell the truth, I've never known about the place Ogni Pensiero Vola . Surprising and amazing that pictures of the place impress and inspire me severely.

Of course, I was more amazed with the sounds by them. Whoa, I see...it's weird, either. Lots of inspiration and horribleness...but there's an excellent Italian flavour. As every progger says, good ancient taste of Italian progressive rock world...they keep the tasty taste. Added to it, current rock wave they have so we can say it might be in the category of NEO-ITALIAN PROG.

I wanna they could keep the weirdness...Included my expectation, 3.5 stars I wanna give to them.

By the way, I'm so interested in neo-Italian progressive rock.
Could you recommend any other new Italian progbands?

Thanks all.

Damo, if you are interested in new Italian prog, the best thing you could do is check Jim (Finnforest)'s Myspace page, which is entirely dedicated to Italian prog. The link is in his signature.

Thanks Raff, I see.
I appreciate. Please let me read well enough.

For what it's worth, I've got Augusto Croce's Italian Prog Book.
That is indeed an excellent guide book, but it's not easy for me to search bands with my favorite style.

I'll try to learn more. Grazie. Wink

Damo, I saw you mention you want some newer Italian bands, or neo-Italian.  Trust me and get the band in the picture below, Coral Caves.   You will love them.  They mix a modern and classical symphonic with Neo-prog flavor.

Don't be, Jim.... Just before I left, every time I informed someone of my plans, the other person invariably answered, "how lucky you are!". Reading the news from italy is extremely depressing, especially since my dear fellow countrymen (and women) still think that crook Berlusconi is the bee's knees. The news lately read like a war bulletin, as if the country was falling apart and no one was able to stop it. Unfortunately, life is much more than just music, art, nice clothes and good food... I wish I had had reason to stay there, but if I chose not to, I had very serious reasons for my choice.

*end of OT rant*

Raff, first off, that comment was not meant to be a message of irritation to you, I'm sure you must know that.  I was speaking tongue-in-cheek, that Italians are lucky to get to see these great shows, thats all.  I AM talking about art and music, not politics, jobs, or economy.

So please don't take my pining for Italy as a personal thing about your situation, OK?  I'm just having fun here.  Smile   And my pining will continue ad infinitum....until the music stops!

Well, when I lived there, I wish I had been able to see those shows.... Most of the venues in Rome are on the opposite side of town, and I don't drive, nor did I have any friends to go with. Would've been great to see some of those up-and-coming bands though, and even some older acts, both Italian and otherwise. Unfortunately, as I said previously, this year that is about to end was not the easiest for me, and music had to take a back seat.

Surprisingly, on Amazon web-shops all over the world, the album is now unavailable... Cry
But I can find it at Garden Shed, a Japanese famous progrock shop in Tokyo. Big smile

Before visiting Tokyo (far from here), soon I'd hit the CC's myspace.
Thanks.

Battiato's new album first review by me:

Franco Battiato - Fleurs 2 CD (album) cover

Fleurs 2

by FRANCO BATTIATO (Italian Symphonic Prog)

4 stars Here's an album really intriguing and well made. Do not think that 'Fleurs 2' is not Prog because Battiato is from 30 years that it played a POP music and not Prog. Who has had the opportunity to deepen the Battiato post 1978 will be noticed that he has never played a type of POP that would be easy. Here he is not denied. Why is true, all we can say but not that Battiato is an easy artist.

'Fleurs 2' is open by 'Tutto L'Universo Obbedisce All'Amore' (feat. Carmen Consoli), the only true POP song in this album. Later Battiato rearrange the songs of other composers (except 'L'addio' which closes the album and it is a Battiato/ Valli/ Di Martino composition) upset in his style. 'It's Five o'Clock' (by Aphrodite's Child) have the orchestra instead of Moog... And with the recitative style of Battiato it sounds so different from the original version... Moreover, he also manages to overturn Otis Redding in 'Sitting On The Dock f The Bay' that becomes almost a Rap Song! Then the whole poem by Battiato is expressed in two songs by Roberto Camisasca ('Il Carmelo Di Echt', almost POP but very dramatic and in 'La Musica Muore', intricate example of battiato thinking) is a different matter that should be addressed, perhaps in another location. In general I read in 'Fleurs 2' not just another an album of cover or tributes but an album of songs that Franco Battiato would have liked to write and this is very positive.

The problem, however, is another problem. 'Fleurs 2' is a beautiful album. But unless you are fans of Battiato (which I am not) or to consider Battiato an artist (which I believe to be true) 'Fleurs 2' is one of the many anonymous album in stores. Which can also be an honor if your name is Franco Battiato.
