These were the 4 GG CDs that I grabbed as I was running out the door this morning.  Free Hand wasn't one of them.  All 4 CDs were decent enough.  I just don't have that lifelong connection with the songs that others do.

Ah well that's okay. Personally I just think that missing piece is so very weak. If you've heard Free Hand yet then you know what I mean.

Damn it.

now I need to listen to this:

"IN MY way did I use you, do you think I really abused you,
On reflection NOW(!) it doesn't ma-aa-atter"

^ClapGreat record Mike! Free Hand(the song) was one of the songs that made me fell in love with GG, then the rest was history(which btw I failed, hehe)

I'm listening to these heavy proggers:

I've heard Free Hand.  I haven't listened to it in quite awhile.  I guess that as usual with me I haven't listened to the albums close enough to analyze them and determine what is good and what is great and what is a masterpiece.

Ah yes. Free Hand was the gateway song for me as well. After that the rest of their albums actually MADE SENSE . On Reflection is my fav now, btw. Acquiring The Taste and Three Friends are my other favorite albums, although I don't have Glass House or Power & Glory

Eh, it's different for everyone. but for me that was the album that "wowed" me off first listen. A very tough band to get though...

Glad you really like Three Friends. Acquiring the Taste isn't my most loved ones, but it has one of my fave tracks, Plain Truth, that violins is as awesome as Willie the Pimp's one!
Though my favorite now is In a Glass House, from begining to end. But Free Hand and Three Friends are up there.

You gotta get Glass House and Power Mike.  Your GG collection is not complete until you have those.

I'm about ready to bust out The Lamb in all it's 5.1 surround sound glory.  Cry
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Personally, I got into The Giant via listening to Acquiring The Taste about 25 times in 3 days. At some point along that journey, there was a breakthrough and I found the tracks I hadn't liked much before increasingly more awesome. Shame that Plain Truth (which I'd liked at first) ended up feeling a bit left behind for me (it's a good song; just doesn't do enough for my liking). On the other hand, I still don't think I'd class any of the 4 Giant albums I've heard (Three Friends, Acquiring The Taste, Free Hand and Interview) as a masterpiece. All very, very good, though.

Oh, and, Mendelssohn. A rather good record featuring a piano sextet (op. 110) and his piano quartet no. 1.

^ Might I suggest Imaginos, Secret Treaties, and Fire of Unknown Origin in that order.  Then, Spectres, Cultosaurus Erectus, and T & M.
