I'm still here.

Shouldn't be though, I'm tired of sitting here. LOL

My top 5? Man, that's tough to order them, but...

Rush, Henry Cow, Magma, Ozric Tentacles, Frank Zappa

Rush became my first band to break 1,000 on my Last.FM list. No surprises there.  I guess that over my life time that probably means that I have listened to Rush songs at least 20,000 times.  There were probably some years where I listened to them more, and some years where I listened to them less.  The accountant/statistician in me is curious to what that exact amount might be.

ClapClapClapClapClap

That would be interesting to see. How would you even begin trying to figure that out though? LOL

I'd say that it is probably pretty impossible.  It will be one of those unknowns until that day where my brain can be hooked up to a computer that could compute and download that type information.

I'd like to be able to hook up a computer on my brain too.

Maybe to upload a... knitting program or something, like in The Matrix

That would be neat.

I know what one of them is but not the other.  Tongue

The other is Porcupine Tree. It would take a Decemberists binge to de-throne them

Again we all left the room to let the poisonous gasses do their work.  We are having the place fumigated for teenagers in the Shred Room.

My top 5 on last.fm are Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, The Decemberists, Gentle Giant, and Genesis, which I'd say are actually my 5 favorite bands

Probably something like Rush, Yes, Henry Cow, Magma, National Health.

Except since I've been listening to Rush and Yes for almost 20 years, I'm not listening to them much these days because I have so much incredible music I've only recently discovered.

I'm a huge Canterbury and Dave Stewart fan (re: National Health above), also love Egg and Hatfield & the North, as well as all the major Canterbury outfits.  Big fan of Elton Dean, Alan Gowen, Hugh Hopper, and obviously Robert Wyatt.

Love chamber prog such as Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, and Present.  Love most RIO/Avant and Zeuhl I've discovered (obviously).

That's me in a nutshell, I suppose.

Rush and Yes are my top 2 and have been for a long, long time.  I'm not really sure who my next 3 are.  They kind of change from day to day and based on my mood.  The top candidates are probably The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, ELP, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Journey, Chicago, Pink Floyd, and The Moody Blues.

See, these are bands I'm merely starting to discover. I'm just recently moving from a psychedelic infatuation into the prog scene, which is why I joined the forum in the first place.

What Egg, National Health, Henry Cow and Robert Wyatt albums should I get first?

Egg's debut is a fine place to start, although I consider The Polite Force to be their best.
The first two National Health albums are essential, get both.  Start with debut first I suppose.
I would get Henry Cow's debut Leg End to start.
Wyatt's album Rock Bottom is a consensus best, and actually the only one I have from him.  Want to get a lot more from him at some point.

You should also check out Soft Machine and Matching Mole.

Henry Cow: Get all of them. Big smile

Really though... it all depends. Probably Leg End is the most accessible, but it has quite a bit of a background in jazz (more than the others do).

Soft Machine and Matching Mole I also know a couple of songs...

Anyway, there's already a bunch of stuff I want to get after the holidays, but I did write those titles down, thanks.
