Was scheduled but I overlooked it when typing up that playlist, by Canadian heavy rock band Wood (from their album Against The Grain)

Remember this is a covers only programme - Stanley Snail's cover of Siberian Khatru and now Kevin Gilbert's cover of , you guessed it, Kasmir

hi Kim

Cycled in through the coldest frost I've felt for several years (global warming! or financial chill). Took some time to warm up but the music is doing that for me.

Competition with no prizes, is to ID the originals to the tunes I'm playing tonight and give a properly analysed description whether the original or the version I play was the better!!! (LOL)

The headache was whittling a tremendous list down to 3 hours play! The variants of tunes from Genesis's Lamb Lies Down Of Broadway and King Crimson's Red are well into double figures. Led Zeppelin suffer covers which too often don't move the tunes on other than being close copies, but when a band makes the effort to rearrange and produce something interestingly different but faithful to the original, then they tend to be worth the listen, e.g. much of Dread Zeppelin's reggae-fied LZ with an Elvis impersonator as vocalist, or Lenny White jazz funk with groove take on Kashmir. Zappa plays the comedy very seriously with his version of Stairway. The blues is easier, since even Robert Johnson's version of Crossroads on the definitive box set attributes composer as "traditional" - odd that Clapton lists the composer as "Johnson". And I have to pay Blackwaterside, which from the very nameof Giltrap's album, you know he knews this is a Bert Jansch's tune not Jimmy Page's.
